S3E1 · Smells Like Mean Spirit
At Heathrow Airport, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) brings his son Henry to board a flight back to Kansas. As he returns to his apartment to clean up, he calls Sharon (Sarah Niles) to talk about his day and progress. Sharon has been transferred to a new club and is also dating a man.
Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Higgins (Jeremy Swift) find that pundits are predicting AFC Richmond will finish in last place for the new Premier League season, while West Ham United F.C. is predicted to be in the top four. Rebecca presses Ted to become more aggressive for the season, as she cannot lose to Rupert (Anthony Head). Meanwhile, Keeley (Juno Temple) has started her PR firm, KJPR, although she later confides in Rebecca that she feels unhappy and stressed out due to how little free time she has left. Her CFO, Barbara (Katy Wix), is concerned about Keeley's expenses for flowers.
Demotivated after reading the pundits' forecast, the team is underperforming during training. To lift their spirits, Ted has them descend into the London sewer system, where he explains that the "poopy" in the sewers is just like those predictions and tells them they need to build an internal sewer system within themselves and each other to keep the bad feelings flowing away. Meanwhile, at the London Stadium, Nate (Nick Mohammed) is training West Ham United players as their new manager but continues to struggle with his self-confidence despite the predictions of the team's success. During a press conference arranged by Rupert, Nate makes a cruel remark to a reporter and mocks Richmond's forecast. He also makes fun of Ted as news of the club's descent into the sewers go viral.
The team learns about Nate's comments, but as suggested by Jamie (Phil Dunster), they must "let it flow". Ted is called back by Rebecca, telling him he must fight back, as everyone is laughing at Richmond. During a press conference, Ted claims that he found Nate's comments "hilarious", wishing him good luck on his new position and mocking himself by listing a lot of his imperfections, which delights the reporters and Rebecca. Social media praises Ted and mocks Nate, frustrating him.
That night, Keeley and Roy (Brett Goldstein) inform his niece, Phoebe (Elodie Blomfield), that they have ended their relationship. Roy claims it is due to their busy schedules, but Keeley suggests something else is happening. At his apartment, Ted talks with Henry over the phone. Henry reveals that his mother's "friend", Jake, bought him an Infinity Gauntlet toy, which unsettles Ted.
S3E2 · (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea
Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is visited by Trent Crimm (James Lance), who wants to write a book about AFC Richmond. Despite being warned by Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley (Juno Temple) and Higgins (Jeremy Swift), Ted tells Trent to write it. The club also discovers that Zava (Maximilian Osinski), a talented footballer, has left Juventus FC, and many clubs want him. Despite his talent, Zava has earned a reputation for being difficult to work with, lasting only a single season with each club. Rebecca decides to meet him after realizing that West Ham United F.C. is interested in him.
Jamie (Phil Dunster) discovers that Keeley is single and offers a hug to Roy (Brett Goldstein), who refuses to disclose details. Despite wanting to keep it a secret, confusion causes Roy to reveal it to the club, embarrassing him. Roy is also forced to share his office with Trent, who will stay close to the club throughout the season. He refuses to talk with Trent and forbids the players from doing so. Meanwhile, Keeley is making several impractical decisions for KJPR, frustrating Barbara (Katy Wix). During a photoshoot, Keeley runs into an old friend, Shandy Fine (Ambreen Razia), who helps her with the shoot and reduces costs. When she decides to hire Shandy for a job, Barbara calls her out for hiring someone with no experience. Keeley convinces her to give Shandy a chance.
While the club leaves for their first match of the season against Chelsea F.C., Rebecca is informed that Zava will be joining Chelsea, delighting her that Rupert (Anthony Head) failed to sign him. But while Richmond is losing the game during the first half, Rebecca sees Rupert arrive and use his charm on Zava in order to sign him to West Ham. She confronts Zava in the bathroom, where she insults him, tells him he's overrated and challenges him to join a team that may not win without him.
During halftime, Roy finally explains to Trent why he is giving him the cold shoulder: Trent wrote a scathing article about Roy when he first played for Chelsea at 17 years old. Trent regrets his remarks and both reconcile. During the second half, Richmond scores when the ball bounces off Dani's face into the goal, ending the game with a 1–1 tie.
At the post-game press conference, Zava shocks the media by announcing that he will play for Richmond and not Chelsea. While talking with Ted and Trent, Roy reminisces about his career at Chelsea, revealing he quit the team over his concern about his worsening skills. He admits he occasionally wonders if he should have stayed and allowed himself to simply enjoy the sport.
S3E3 · 4-5-1
Colin (Billy Harris) starts his daily routine at home, where he is revealed to be in a relationship with a man named Michael (Sam Liu). Colin leaves for Richmond, while Michael heads off for a trip to Dubai.
AFC Richmond welcomes Zava (Maximilian Osinski) into the club, although he arrives two hours late for a press conference. Ted (Jason Sudeikis), Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy (Brett Goldstein) discuss how placing Zava in the club's line-up will require benching another player and changing tactics. When he arrives, Zava impresses the team members, although the coaching staff is concerned when he proposes taking the forward position on his own and leaving the other players in the backfield. Meanwhile, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) skeptically visits her mother's psychic, Tish (Emma Davies). Among other things, Tish predicts that Rebecca will become a mother, but Rebecca dismisses her as a fraud.
The coaching staff settles for a 4-5-1 formation, reinforcing the strategy of having Zava score all goals. Before their game against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., Ted calls Michelle (Andrea Anders), but her phone is answered by Jacob Brianson (Mike O'Gorman), their former couple's therapist. Remembering a previous conversation with Henry, Ted realizes that Michelle and Jacob are dating, which disturbs him and triggers an incipient panic attack.
Zava starts the game by scoring a goal from midfield, halting Ted's panic attack and leading to a victory for Richmond. Zava then leads Richmond into a 6-game winning streak, placing Richmond as the third best team in the league, frustrating Nate (Nick Mohammed) and Rupert (Anthony Head). However, Jamie (Phil Dunster) also feels frustrated by Zava, especially when he steals a goal from him.
Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) invites the club to his yet-to-open Nigerian restaurant, Ola's. During the celebration, Colin arrives with Michael, presenting him as just a friend. Roy converses with Jamie, who feels left out by the attention that Zava has achieved. Roy offers to train Jamie, who accepts. Ted runs into Sassy (Ellie Taylor) and opens up about Michelle's relationship. As a child psychologist, Sassy notes that Michelle and Jacob's relationship is an ethical violation.
Sam gives everyone a green matchbook to commemorate the restaurant. Rebecca is taken aback, as Tish had predicted she would receive a green matchbook, and wonders if any other predictions might come true. Trent (James Lance) leaves the restaurant, where he sees Colin and Michael kissing in an alley.
S3E4 · Big Week
As part of their deal, Jamie (Phil Dunster) is woken by Roy (Brett Goldstein) at 4 am, to prepare for their new workout. Meanwhile, Nate (Nick Mohammed) is preparing for the West Ham match against AFC Richmond.
After spending the night together, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) asks Sassy (Ellie Taylor) to go out on a date with him. Sassy declines, stating that he is "a mess" like her and feeling that a relationship could jeopardize their current friends with benefits status. Discussing the team's formation, Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy decide on "Nate's False Nine" formation, which will probably surprise Nate, although they think that Zava (Maximilian Osinski) may disapprove of the tactic, which involves his dropping back with the rest of the team.
Questioning why Ted isn't angry with Nate, Beard and Roy show him video footage of Nate tearing apart the "Believe" sign in the locker room, which was recently discovered by Trent (James Lance). They're hoping Ted will show the footage to the team as motivation. Ted is still conflicted about his wife's relationship with their marriage counselor, Dr. Jacob, and is motivated by Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) to beat West Ham. Meanwhile, Nate has been regretting the way he left Richmond, noting his life did not improve as much as he wanted. Rupert (Anthony Head) tells him he should not be worried and that he earned his position.
Before the game, Ted runs into Nate in the elevator, their first encounter since he left Richmond. Nate's apology is interrupted by Rupert, prompting Nate to leave. Keeley (Juno Temple) has her period in a restroom, where she is helped by a woman in the next stall. At their seats, she finds that the woman is Jack Danvers (Jodi Balfour), the venture capitalist who has invested in her PR firm. Shandy (Ambreen Razia) notes to Keeley that Barbara (Katy Wix) has taken an interest in Rebecca, which seems to unnerve her.
The first half of the game ends with West Ham scoring two goals, despite Richmond's dominating possession. Rebecca awkwardly confronts Ted at half time, encouraging him to forget the pressure and “have fun”. During halftime, Beard and Kent show the video footage of Nate to the team, enraging them. They play the second half extremely aggressively, which results in three Richmond players being sent off and the game ending with a 4-1 victory for West Ham. Despite scoring the single Richmond goal, Zava is disappointed by the match. Beard and Roy blame themselves for their approach, but Ted is not angry with them. During a press conference, Nate is questioned about not shaking Ted's hand after the game. Afterwards he is about to approach Ted in a hallway, only to be interrupted by an invitation from Rupert to a club to celebrate, causing him to miss Ted.
Rebecca sees Rupert kissing his assistant. As he is about to leave with Bex, Rebecca tells him not to ruin his life with Bex and their child. Shandy informs Keeley that Bantr has been trending since she changed the bio line to include having sex with celebrities, and Keeley forces her to change it back. At the club, Nate is celebrated for his role in the match and is introduced to a famous model, although he does not really enjoy the evening. Back at his apartment, Ted speaks with Michelle (Andrea Anders) through FaceTime and admits that he is disturbed by her relationship with Jacob. He tells her he will care for her and Henry, no matter what happens.
S3E5 · Signs
AFC Richmond loses 4–2 to Newcastle United, which makes it its seventh straight week without winning. The coaching staff is unable to fully settle on what to do.
At a café, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) finds her ex-boyfriend John (Patrick Baladi) is now engaged to another woman, and Rebecca is taken aback when she repeats a phrase that was in one of Tish's predictions. Meanwhile, while Keeley (Juno Temple) and Jack (Jodi Balfour) have a meeting, Shandy (Ambreen Razia) announces that she is developing a new app to help users to have sex with celebrities. After she leaves, Jack encourages Keeley to fire Shandy, which Keeley is unwilling to do.
Ted (Jason Sudeikis) learns that Henry was involved in a bullying incident and talks with Michelle that night to know the details, only to find Henry himself was the bully. Meanwhile, Keeley decides to finally fire Shandy, after learning her antics cost the firm a client. Shandy angrily storms out.
Before Richmond's next match against Manchester City, Rebecca visits a fertility clinic to know her chances of ever getting pregnant and is promised the results after the game. After discovering that Shandy left a lamb that defecated all over a conference room, Keeley and Jack are forced to stay at the office to clean up. Nate (Nick Mohammed) takes his shallow model date to his favorite restaurant, but she looks down on the ambiance and insults the food. With the Manchester game about to start, Zava (Maximilian Osinski) is nowhere to be found. The club is forced to use Colin (Billy Harris) in Zava's place, confusing the pundits. The game ends in a heavy 4–0 loss for Richmond, damaging the public's faith in the team.
After the game, Rebecca receives a call from the clinic and is disappointed in her result. She calls Keeley, who does not answer since she is spending the night with Jack at her office, the two having bonded after cleaning up the lamb feces together. On an impulse, Keeley kisses Jack, who reciprocates. Back at the restaurant, hostess Jade (Edyta Budnik) brings two baklava servings that Nate ordered and discovers that his date left him. He jokingly invites her to eat them with him, which she actually accepts. Ted has a call with Henry and is reassured when he says he already made up with the student at whom he lashed out.
At the locker room, the club watches a video from Zava announcing his retirement to spend time with his family and tend to his avocado farm. After his call with Henry, Ted wards off a panic attack and makes a speech to the team suggesting Zava's departure will benefit them, as it will force the team to believe in themselves. When half the "Believe" sign falls from the wall, he tears up the rest of it, saying it's "just a sign" and that their belief in themselves and each other cannot be ripped apart. The team regains its spirits, and Jamie (Phil Dunster) and Roy (Brett Goldstein) continue their workout sessions.
S3E6 · Sunflowers
AFC Richmond loses 5–0 during a friendly game to AFC Ajax in Amsterdam. Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is annoyed by the Ajax supporters happily singing the club's anthem, " Three Little Birds " by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Ted (Jason Sudeikis) tries to lift the club's spirits by announcing no curfew that night.
Roy (Brett Goldstein) forbids Jamie (Phil Dunster) from taking the night off and takes him for training through Amsterdam, but is annoyed by Jamie's enthusiastic attitude and knowledge of the city. When Roy mentions that he's never seen a windmill, Jamie buys stolen bicycles so they can go to see one; but Roy confesses that he never learned to ride a bike. Jamie teaches him, and although Roy struggles at first, the two eventually ride to the outskirts of the city and see a windmill.
Rebecca wants to spend time with Keeley (Juno Temple), but she leaves to see the aurora borealis with her girlfriend Jack in Norway. While walking in a bike lane, Rebecca is knocked off a bridge and falls into a canal. An onlooker (Matteo van der Grijn) invites her onto his houseboat so she can shower and change her clothes. He cooks her dinner, they bond over deep conversations, and she falls asleep on his couch. Higgins (Jeremy Swift) takes Will (Charlie Hiscock) to a jazz club to pay respects to Chet Baker. Will is delighted by the music and is also surprised by Higgins' skills when he is invited to join the band onstage.
The team discusses what to do for their free night: some want to go to a sex show, while others want to attend a private party where Jan Maas’ (David Elsendoorn) cousin Martin Garrix is performing in Groningen, two hours' drive away. After a lengthy, inconclusive and angry debate, they hold a pillow fight at the hotel. During this time, Colin (Billy Harris) heads to a gay bar and is followed by Trent (James Lance). Colin panics and leaves, but Trent assures him that he has known Colin is gay for months. He tells Colin about his own experience coming out to his family. Colin says that he wants to be able to kiss his boyfriend when he wins a match and not worry about it.
Beard (Brendan Hunt) offers to help Ted get out of his rut by sharing drugs with him, but Ted is unwilling to drink the drugged tea until after Beard has left. He visits the Van Gogh Museum, where Van Gogh's paintings of sunflowers remind him of his home state of Kansas.
While watching a recording of an old Chicago Bulls game at an American-style theme restaurant, Ted is offered a bottle of Arthur Bryant's barbecue sauce, after which he begins to experience hallucinations inspired by Tex Winter 's use of the triangle offense, leading him to devise a new football strategy.
The next morning, the club is ready to leave Amsterdam. Ted shows Beard his new tactic, which involves the players being prepared to take any position in the field. Beard notes that this strategy, Total Football, was first developed in Amsterdam in the 1970s but agrees that the team should adopt it. All in high spirits, the rest of the club and Rebecca board the bus, which drives off as the club collectively sings " Three Little Birds ".
S3E7 · The Strings That Bind Us
Ted (Jason Sudeikis) gets Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy (Brett Goldstein) to explain their Total Football tactic to AFC Richmond.
Jack (Jodi Balfour) gives Keeley (Juno Temple) a first edition of Sense and Sensibility signed by Jane Austen. Barbara remarks on the impropriety of Keeley receiving such a valuable gift from her "boss". When Keeley expresses her concerns to Jack, Jack announces to the entire office that they are dating. The evening at a restaurant, Rebecca compares Jack's extravagant gifts with the " love-bombing " techniques Rupert used early in their relationship; on their second date Rupert bought her an expensive car. Keeley claims everything is fine but is then notified that Jack has paid for their meal.
Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) is delighted to hear that his father (Nonso Anozie) will be visiting. Before his arrival, he finds that Home Secretary Brinda Barot plans to bar refugees from entering Britain. Sam politely criticizes her decisions on Twitter, and Barot replies by telling him to "shut up and dribble", prompting Sam to refer to her as a "world-class bigot". Meanwhile, Nate (Nick Mohammed) wants to ask Jade (Edyta Budnik) out on a date but is worried that she could reject him. His mother and sister encourage him to ask her, so he makes a gift box for Jade. But he trips when crossing the street, and a car runs over the gift. Nate then simply asks her out, and she accepts.
To teach the team versatility, Ted makes the players swap positions during training; Jamie (Phil Dunster) is the only one to play his usual position. The tactic has mixed results, and Trent (James Lance) is unconvinced that it will pay off, but Ted maintains his optimism. The next day, they use a tactic devised by Roy to teach the team to pay attention to each other's positions on the pitch: the players are connected to each other with strings tied to their penises.
A day before their game against Arsenal, Sam finds that his restaurant has been vandalized by Barot's supporters. He has an emotional breakdown in the locker room, but his father, Ola, arrives and comforts him. Sam does not want to show Ola his wrecked restaurant, but Ola insists on seeing it after their game. On game day, the first half ends with a 3–0 lead for Arsenal, and the pundits are confused by Richmond's tactics. In the locker room, Jamie suggests to the team that instead of playing "to" him, they should play "through" him. During the second half, they score an elegant goal using the Total Football approach. While the game still ends in a 3–1 win for Arsenal, Richmond's reputation drastically improves. Trent observes that Ted's supportive coaching style over the past three seasons has been instrumental in teaching the team to trust and support each other.
Keeley tells Jack that she loves her but wants their relationship to be on equal terms; she later treats Jack to dinner at A Taste of Athens. Nate and Jade finally go on a date. Sam takes Ola to see his restaurant and finds that the team has been cleaning and repairing it. Sam decides to keep the broken mirrors, as a reminder that "everything does not have to be perfect." Ola, touched upon seeing that Sam named the restaurant after him, cooks dinner with Sam for the rest of the team.
S3E8 · We'll Never Have Paris
AFC Richmond is on a winning streak. But Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is anxious, as Dr. Jacob (Mike O'Gorman) is taking Michelle (Andrea Anders) on a surprise trip to Paris, leaving Henry (Gus Turner) with Ted.
Keeley (Juno Temple) is horrified to discover that a sexually explicit video of her is part of a massive leak of such videos to the Internet. Isaac (Kola Bokinni) orders the team to delete all sexually explicit images from their phones to prevent future leaks. When Colin (Billy Harris) leaves the locker room, Isaac follows him and takes his phone to delete what he was looking at. Surprised at what he sees, Isaac looks back at Colin, gives a slight nod, before silently handing him back his phone and walking away.
Ted fears that Dr. Jacob will propose to Michelle in Paris, although his friends tell him not to fret about something that hasn't happened yet. Ted asks Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) to hire a private investigator to follow them in Paris. Meanwhile, Nate (Nick Mohammed) and Jade (Edyta Budnik) sleep together after their date, but she is hesitant to label their relationship. Nate seeks advice from fellow West Ham staff members, but they are no help. Later, however, Jade describes Nate as her boyfriend.
Jack (Jodi Balfour) has her lawyers draft a formal-sounding statement of apology for Keeley to "minimize the damage" to her public image from the leak. Not wanting to apologize for something that wasn't her fault, Keeley refuses. Jack tells Keeley she should not have made the video in the first place and implies that she values her own reputation above Keeley's welfare. When Keeley shows no regrets, Jack ends their relationship. The next day, Keeley is visited by Jamie (Phil Dunster), who was the original recipient of Keeley's video when they were dating. Jamie apologizes for having forgotten to delete the email with the video, and the two share a hug.
Henry asks to watch a soccer game, so Ted and Beard reluctantly take him to a West Ham game. Nate sees them in the stands and nervously turns his back. After the game, Rupert texts that he will not allow Ted into the stadium in the future. Nate considers telling Rupert that he didn't mind Ted being there, but instead thanks him. Rebecca calls Ted to tell him that he shouldn't care if Michelle gets engaged. Meanwhile, Henry hears a busker singing " Hey Jude ", and Beard explains that the song was written to comfort a boy whose parents were divorcing. When Michelle and Jacob return from Paris and Henry leaves with them, Ted notes that Michelle is not wearing a ring.
S3E9 · La Locker Room Aux Folles
After Isaac (Kola Bokinni) discovers that Colin (Billy Harris) is gay, Colin tries to talk with him, but Isaac constantly ignores or pushes him away. Trent (James Lance) advises Colin to give Isaac time to process everything.
Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) asks Roy (Brett Goldstein) to run a press conference when Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is unavailable. After Roy skips the press conference, she angrily calls him to her office, telling him that he needs to stop doing only things that are easy for him.
AFC Richmond faces Brighton. The first half ends 1–0 in Brighton's favor, with Isaac chastising Colin for missing a crucial pass. As Richmond leaves the pitch for halftime, a Richmond fan insults the team with a homophobic slur. Isaac angrily jumps into the stands and attacks the fan, and is punished with a red card. In the locker room, the team then deduces that Isaac might be gay, until Colin comes out to the team and receives their support. Roy talks with Isaac, telling him that he must deal with his anger before it eventually consumes him. In the second half, Colin gives his best performance of the season, assisting in a 2–1 win for Richmond.
Roy finally gives a press conference, using an anecdote from his past to explain that, while Richmond does not condone Isaac's actions, Isaac still has his love, since one cannot always know what others are going through.
Meanwhile, Jade (Edyta Budnik) visits Nate (Nick Mohammed) at work and meets Rupert (Anthony Head). Rupert later invites Nate to a "guys' night out" after their game, but when Nate joins Rupert at a bar, he discovers that Rupert has brought two women with him. He excuses himself and leaves the bar to visit Jade.
That night, Isaac explains to Colin that he felt betrayed by Colin's never opening up to him. Colin says he was still scared of the unlikely possibility that Isaac would not support him. Colin decides not to publicly come out, satisfied with being out to the team, and the two friends reconcile.
S3E10 · International Break
AFC Richmond is coming off a 10-game winning streak, with Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) singled out as a key player. Soccer Saturday also reveals that Nate (Nick Mohammed) has unexpectedly parted ways with West Ham United, with pundits wondering if the club's success should be attributed to him or Rupert (Anthony Head). A later conversation with Jade (Edyta Budnik) reveals that Nate chose to quit the club.
With an international break approaching, several of the Richmond players are called to represent their countries: Jamie (Phil Dunster) makes his debut for the England national football team, Dani (Cristo Fernández) is called for the Mexico national football team, Bumbercatch for the Switzerland national football team, Colin (Billy Harris) for the Wales national football team, and Thierry Zoreaux/"Van Damme" (Moe Jeudy-Lamour) for the Canada national soccer team. Sam is disappointed that he was not selected for the Nigeria national football team, but his spirits are lifted when he sees Jamie wearing his number while playing for England. Meanwhile, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is informed that Edwin Akufo (Sam Richardson) is visiting to form a new Super League that is to consist of top players and clubs.
Keeley (Juno Temple) arrives at KJPR and finds that the furniture is being taken away and the employees are leaving. Barbara (Katy Wix) tells her that Jack's board decided to pull funding for the company, shutting down the firm within two days. Rupert visits Rebecca at her office and invites her to attend Akufo's Super League meeting, which she accepts. Sam arrives at Ola's and finds Akufo there. As petty retribution for Sam's turning down his previous offer to join Raja CA, Akufo booked the entire restaurant and then cancelled each reservation. He reveals that he bribed the Nigerian government with $20 million to keep Sam off Nigeria's national team.
Roy's (Brett Goldstein) niece Phoebe gives him a garish tie-dyed shirt she made for him. Despite the startled and sometimes mocking reactions of the staff, Roy chooses to wear it. The next day Phoebe's teacher, Ms. Bowen (Ruth Bradley), tells him that his attitude seems much "lighter". Rebecca attends Akufo's meeting with several other team owners. Akufo reveals he intends his League to sign all the best clubs in Europe and charge higher prices for tickets. Rebecca berates them for taking football away from working-class people just to make more money that they don't need and refuses to join. This prompts the other owners to reject Akufo's plan, resulting in an off-screen tantrum from Akufo that leaves the guests covered in food. After everyone leaves, Rupert tries to kiss Rebecca, but she politely rebuffs him.
A dejected Nate visits his parents' house and sleeps there while Jade travels to Poland for a few days. After spending his time in bed for several days, Nate finds his old violin and plays it again. He then talks with his father, mending their strained relationship. Roy visits Keeley at her house and apologizes, admitting that their break-up was his fault. Rebecca visits Keeley, learns about the VC's pullout from KJPR, and offers funding she can easily afford to keep the firm going. Roy walks in wearing a robe, revealing that he and Keeley are back together.
At the Richmond locker room, Will discovers that his daily chores are already done, along with a lavender-scented note saying, "I'm sorry - Wonder Kid". Barbara tells Keeley that she has resigned from Jack's company and wants to continue working for KJPR. Roy wears another tie-dyed shirt to work. Rebecca tells Ted (Jason Sudeikis) that she no longer cares about beating Rupert but still wants to win the whole thing for Richmond.
S3E11 · Mom City
Ted (Jason Sudeikis) receives an unexpected visit from his mother, Dottie (Becky Ann Baker). Although Ted is uncomfortable with her presence, Dottie charms the AFC Richmond players and Ted's other friends.
Nate (Nick Mohammed) is now working with Jade (Edyta Budnik) at Taste of Athens. Isaac (Kola Bokinni), Colin (Billy Harris) and Will (Charlie Hiscock) ask him to return to coaching at Richmond. Nate declines when he learns Ted was not part of the decision to ask him back. When Higgins (Jeremy Swift) mentions the possibility to the coaches, Roy is for it, but Beard (Brendan Hunt) voices his opposition. Later, Jade blackmails their boss into firing Nate to motivate him to return to football.
Richmond has been riding a 15-game winning streak, and a victory in their upcoming match against Manchester City will put them in contention to win the Premier League. Despite his success with Richmond, Jamie (Phil Dunster), who once played for City, has been suffering from depression. After the team arrive in Manchester, Jamie visits his mother Georgie (Leanne Best). He confides in her that he feels nervous about the negative reception he faces from City fans—including his abusive father, James (Kieran O'Brien). Georgie consoles him, telling him he has nothing to prove to James.
During the match, Manchester City fans heckle Jamie. Despite this, he assists Colin in scoring a goal. Late in the game, he injures his ankle preventing a City goal. Rather than replacing him, Ted waits for Jamie to recover, forcing Richmond to play with just 10 players. Ted's suggestion that Jamie forgive his father motivates Jamie to return to the game. He scores a goal in the final minutes, clinching Richmond's 2–0 victory and earning the applause of the local audience, including James, who is watching the game from a rehab facility.
Back in London, Ted asks Beard to give Nate a second chance. Beard visits Nate, who is in the process of writing an apology letter to Ted, and reveals his history with Ted. They became friends on their college football team, but Beard later went to prison for stealing meth. After his release, Beard looked up Ted who took him in, but Beard stole Ted's car. Ted saved him from returning to prison by telling the police that he had loaned him the car. As Ted forgave him and gave him a second chance, Beard forgives Nate and offers him his job back.
Ted confronts his mother over her not seeking emotional support for herself or Ted after his father's suicide. Dottie apologizes, tells him she didn't know what else to do and that she came to tell him that his son misses him. Meanwhile, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is visited by Bex (Keeley Hazell) and Rupert's assistant Ms. Kakes, asking for advice. The next morning, Ted tells Rebecca he has his own "truth bomb" to reveal.
S3E12 · So Long, Farewell
AFC Richmond can win the Premier League on the final day of the season, as long as Manchester City lose or draw in their match. Richmond will face West Ham United, just as Rupert (Anthony Head) has become involved in a scandal, with Bex planning to divorce him over his "inappropriate relationship" with his former assistant Ms. Kakes.
Higgins (Jeremy Swift) informs Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) that the club value is at an all-time high and suggests she sells 49% of her shares, which will leave her with majority ownership. However, Rebecca is thinking of selling the club entirely, since she feels she has nothing to prove now. She remarks that she took over ownership of the club only to ruin Rupert's life, but he seems to be doing a pretty good job of it himself. Roy (Brett Goldstein) feels that Jamie (Phil Dunster) is trying to resume his relationship with Keeley (Juno Temple) and asks him to step aside. Jamie refuses and reveals that her explicit video was made for him, which angers Roy. After fighting each other, they visit Keeley to make her choose between them. Insulted by their sexism, she chooses neither and kicks them out. They realize their mistake and leave to get some food.
Ted (Jason Sudeikis) and Beard (Brendan Hunt) announce they will return home at the end of the season. At the end of their last practice before the match against West Ham, the team surprise Ted and Beard by performing " So Long, Farewell ". Trent (James Lance) gives Ted and Beard a draft of his book, The Lasso Way, for feedback. Nate (Nick Mohammed) is back as assistant kit man, and is jokingly fined by the club for his season-long absence. Finally ready to talk with Ted about his departure, Rebecca reveals she is selling the club, explaining "if you go, I go". She begs him to stay, but he maintains his position. In the locker room, Nate tearfully apologizes to Ted, after noting that the "Believe" sign is no longer in the room.
The first half of the final match of the season ends with West Ham leading 2–0, while Manchester City is leading over Liverpool. At halftime, the Richmond players reveal they have kept the pieces of the ripped "Believe" sign, and reassemble them. During the second half, Jamie scores a goal, and later wins a penalty kick. Jamie offers the kick to Dani, who instead gives the penalty to Isaac (Kola Bokinni). Despite never having made a successful penalty kick before, Isaac ties the score by blasting right through the net into the stands.
Rupert furiously reprimands West Ham's manager, George Cartrick (Bill Fellows), telling him to take out Jamie by injuring him. When George refuses, Rupert assaults him. This prompts the crowd to jeer Rupert, and he leaves the stadium in disgrace. In the final minute, Richmond wins a free kick. Using a strategy developed by Nate, Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) scores the winning goal. Because Manchester City wins their match, Richmond finishes second overall, but Ted still receives widespread praise for the achievement.
At the airport, Ted says goodbye to Rebecca, who has chosen to sell 49% of Richmond to the fans while maintaining ownership. Before the plane takes off, Beard explains that he wants to stay in England to be with Jane, and the two share an emotional farewell before Beard fakes an appendicitis attack to get off the plane. As she leaves the airport, Rebecca runs into the stranger she met in Amsterdam (Matteo van der Grijn) with his daughter, and both smile at their surprise reunion.
Trent finds his draft with extensive notes from Beard. Ted's note says he loved it but suggests changing the title, saying "It's not about me. It never was"; so Trent changes it to The Richmond Way. Rupert is removed as owner of West Ham and is ostracized by the media. Roy becomes the new manager of Richmond. Sam is selected to play for the Nigeria national football team. Jamie reconnects with his father (Kieran O'Brien) and remains friends with Keeley and Roy. Keeley and Barbara (Katy Wix) reopen their PR firm and propose a Richmond women's team, which Rebecca gleefully agrees to.
Sharon (Sarah Niles) is hired as Richmond's Head of Mental Health, and Roy takes sessions with her. Nate glues the pieces of the "Believe" sign back together, and he, Roy, and Beard place the re-assembled "Believe" sign back in the locker room. Beard marries a now-pregnant Jane in a pagan ritual at Stonehenge, with the members of Richmond in attendance. Ted, now coach of Henry's soccer team, reminds his son to "be a goldfish", after missing a goal. As Henry goes back to play, Ted smiles, content.
