S4E1 · The Munsters
Six months after being cut out of GoJo's acquisition of Waystar RoyCo by Logan, Kendall, Shiv and Roman are prepared to resign from the company and are in Los Angeles to meet investors for their proposed new media brand, "The Hundred". Shiv gets a call from Tom—from whom she is now on trial separation —saying he just met with Naomi Pierce. The siblings realize that Logan is again attempting to buy Pierce Global Media (PGM); both Kendall and Shiv are immediately in favor of abandoning The Hundred to launch a rival bid, while Roman is initially apprehensive, suggesting the two are driven by their vendettas against Logan and Tom respectively. The three eventually resolve to make an offer to the Pierces.
Logan, meanwhile, is in New York celebrating his birthday at his home, 48 hours away from completing the GoJo acquisition. Connor is the only one of his children present, his presidential campaign polling at 1 percent. Tom informs Logan that the Pierces are interested in a deal, and unsuccessfully asks Logan for assurances about his position at Waystar should he and Shiv divorce. Logan, fed up with the party, leaves to get dinner with his bodyguard Colin, where he ruminates on the economic value of people, mortality, and the possibility of an afterlife. He later returns to his apartment and summons Tom and the rest of his senior cadre to his study to finalize the deal with the Pierces; Karl informs him that his children have launched a competing bid.
The siblings travel to Nan Pierce's California estate and are greeted by Naomi, whose relationship with Kendall has ended. Nan claims to be indecisive about whose offer to take, torn between her distaste for Logan and PGM's urgency for stable financing amidst its waning public support. Roman realizes she is angling for them to make a higher bid than Logan. The siblings go outside to deliberate, while Logan lowballs the Pierces with a $6 billion offer. The siblings, meanwhile, offer $8 billion, but are told by Naomi that Nan still wants more "upside". Unable to reach Logan directly, Shiv calls Tom and goads him into admitting that Logan's price ceiling is $12 billion, the same as theirs. The siblings decide on $10 billion, knowing Nan cannot refuse the offer. Nan ultimately accepts, forcing Logan to concede.
Shiv returns to her New York apartment to retrieve her clothes and is surprised to see Tom there. Though the two remain emotionally distant, Tom expresses his desire to have a conversation about what went wrong in their marriage before they separate. Shiv, however, insists on going through with a divorce as painlessly as possible. Meanwhile, a dejected Logan watches ATN's nightly news broadcast alone, and calls network head Cyd Peach to lambaste her over the quality of its content.
S4E2 · Rehearsal
Logan, who gets to keep ATN per the terms of GoJo's acquisition of Waystar, visits the newsroom, where he delivers a bombastic speech about his plans to reinvent the network's brand and messaging. Kerry, meanwhile, wants to become an ATN anchor, but her audition tape is mocked across the company - as well as by the siblings, who are in Albany to strategize following their acquisition of PGM. Shiv is angered to learn that Tom—per Logan's advice—has met with most of New York's prominent divorce attorneys, thus disqualifying them from representing her.
The siblings return to the city to attend Connor and Willa's rehearsal dinner for their wedding, though they arrive late after Logan rescinds their access to the helicopter that was supposed to take them there. Stewy and Sandi meet them to propose vetoing the GoJo acquisition at Waystar's board meeting the next day to negotiate a price increase; Shiv is the only one who supports the idea. The siblings spot Willa and her friends leaving the rehearsal dinner on their way in; a dejected Connor tells them Willa is having doubts about marrying him.
The four siblings go out for drinks. Kendall privately takes a call from Matsson, who threatens to call off the Waystar acquisition if pressured by the board on price. Kendall suddenly becomes interested in Stewy and Sandi's offer, but does not tell the siblings about his call with Matsson. Roman nonetheless surmises that Matsson will not renegotiate the price; both he and Connor chastise Kendall and Shiv for jeopardizing the children's payout in favor of spiting Logan. Kendall and Shiv are concerned to learn Roman is still in correspondence with Logan over text, but Roman dismisses their concerns and agrees to back Sandi and Stewy.
Tom, meanwhile, admits to Logan that Kerry is not fit to be a news anchor; Logan has Tom discreetly reject her audition, while Tom passes the task onto Greg. Logan learns of the siblings' partnership with Sandi and Stewy and decides to meet his children - who are at a karaoke bar - to convince them to allow the GoJo sale to go through. Kendall and Shiv refuse to make peace with their father, and unsuccessfully demand an apology from him for his abusive parenting. Shiv furthermore refuses to believe Logan's claim that Matsson will call off the deal if pushed for more money, while Kendall still does not disclose having heard the same from Matsson himself. An exasperated Logan tells his children that they are "not serious people", and leaves. Outside, he asks Kerry to arrange a meeting between himself, Matsson, and the rest of Waystar's executives except for Gerri.
Connor returns home and is relieved to find that Willa has chosen to stay with him. Roman visits Logan at his home, where Logan asks his help in negotiating with Matsson. Logan also offers Roman Cyd's place as head of ATN under his new vision for the network.
S4E3 · Connor's Wedding
En route to Connor's wedding, Roman receives a call from Logan, who—despite having told Connor he would attend the wedding—is about to board a plane with most of Waystar's management (except Gerri and Hugo) to meet with Matsson. Logan tells Roman to fire Gerri for mishandling the cruises scandal. While boarding the plane, Logan tells Tom that Cyd will also be fired. On arrival at the wedding yacht, Roman reluctantly gives Gerri the news. She responds with muted anger, believing that Roman's unwanted sexual advances towards her are responsible for her dismissal. Roman calls Logan and leaves an angry, expletive-laden voicemail expressing his frustration with Logan for manipulating him. Kendall and Shiv arrive on the yacht; Shiv, who is ignoring Tom's phone calls, is tasked by Kendall and Roman with telling Connor that Logan will not be attending the wedding.
While Shiv is away, Roman gets a call from Tom revealing that Logan has suddenly become gravely ill and is receiving CPR on the plane. Tom places his phone by Logan's ear to give the panicking Kendall and Roman a chance to say goodbye to their dying father. Kendall goes to find Shiv, and when he returns with her, Roman tells the two that Logan's heart has stopped and he is not breathing. Shiv immediately breaks down crying, but Roman tells her to speak to Logan in case he can still hear her.
When asked for his honest opinion, Frank privately tells Kendall over the phone that he believes Logan has died. Meanwhile, senior executives on the plane plan a timeline for releasing the news of Logan's death, knowing that the news will impact the market significantly. Tom privately calls Greg to relay the news, and orders him to discreetly delete certain files on his computer and stick close to Cyd. Tom stresses to Greg the importance of keeping the news secret until the markets close, but asks him to make it known that Tom was by Logan's side when he died. He admits to Greg that he is "not okay" and cries after hanging up.
As the realization that their father is dead begins to sink in, the siblings go to inform Connor, who is emotionally numb to the news and says he believes Logan never even liked him. Connor goes to see Willa to discuss calling off the wedding. Hugo and Gerri are briefed on the situation, and Hugo informs the grieving siblings that a statement on Logan's passing is being drafted by Karolina, but the siblings cannot agree on whether this is a good idea. Kendall asserts that their next actions must be unimpeachable, as whatever they do will form part of a historic narrative, and that their "freedom of movement" must be preserved. The siblings decide they will issue a statement themselves ahead of the board meeting the next day, during which the future of the company's leadership will be decided.
Connor and Willa ultimately decide to continue with the wedding in front of just a handful of guests. The other siblings leave the boat and are flown out to Teterboro Airport, where the plane lands and Logan is pronounced dead on arrival. Press reporters swarm, and Shiv reads them the siblings' statement on Logan's death and adds that she and her brothers plan to "be there" as the company moves forward. Roman sees that Waystar's stock price has already plummeted, and the siblings share an emotional hug. Shiv leaves with Tom while Roman goes to bid farewell to Logan; Kendall watches from afar, fighting back tears, as paramedics load Logan's body into an ambulance.
S4E4 · Honeymoon States
The morning after Logan's death, Shiv learns from her doctor that an amniocentesis she had previously scheduled confirms a healthy pregnancy, while a sleep-deprived Kendall joins his family and Logan's close associates at Logan's apartment for his wake. Kendall is surprised to see Marcia upon arriving; she insists she and Logan remained in touch after their separation, speaking "intimately" every day. While the siblings reunite, Tom meets with Frank, Karl, and Gerri to discuss who to name interim CEO to the board later that day. Tom is quickly ruled out as an option; he later unsuccessfully attempts to curry favor with Kendall and Roman.
Roman declines a call from Matsson until the siblings are unified on their position regarding the GoJo acquisition. Upon calling Matsson back, however, the siblings are only able to reach his assistant Oskar Guðjohnsen, who tells them GoJo cannot call off their annual company retreat, and that the siblings will have to fly overseas the next day if they want to negotiate with Matsson directly. Connor, meanwhile, negotiates with Marcia to buy Logan's apartment for $63 million. Hugo later pulls Kendall aside and confides that his daughter Juliet sold her Waystar shares prior to news of Logan's death going public.
Frank finds a document in Logan's safe which appears to name Kendall as CEO upon his death; however, the document is undated, and it is unclear whether Kendall's name is underlined or crossed out. Frank, Karl and Gerri wish to dismiss the document as illegitimate, noting that Logan's choosing of a successor has no legal force, but decide to tell the siblings. Kendall is clearly taken aback by the news and privately laments to Frank that he regrets disappointing his father, but Frank comforts him. Roman and Shiv are dispirited at not being named successor, but agree that as Logan's children, they would prefer to have one of them leading the company rather than Logan's old guard. Tom takes Shiv aside to comfort her about Logan's death, and reminisces about their initial courtship. Shiv doesn't tell him about her pregnancy.
The family receives word that Jeryd Mencken wants to attend the wake, and conservative donor Ron Petkus makes a toast in Logan's honor; Stewy, Sandi, and her father arrive as well. Kerry arrives in tears to pick up some belongings from Logan's home, and discreetly tells Roman that she and Logan were discussing getting married. Marcia, however, has Kerry swiftly escorted out. Kendall finds his siblings unwilling to discuss the terms of his takeover, and asks Stewy to advocate on his behalf.
Kendall then has a sitdown with Shiv and Roman to talk leadership, and is receptive to their concerns regarding his competence. Roman recalls that Waystar's draft succession plan dictates that leadership be passed down to the COO - a title he currently holds. Kendall and Roman agree to run the company together, since Shiv lacks relevant experience, but promise the skeptical Shiv that they will involve her in all operational decisions. The siblings announce the decision to Waystar's senior executives, with Stewy present to endorse Kendall; the board approves the decision shortly thereafter. Shiv nonetheless feels dejected, and embarrasses herself when she trips and falls in front of other guests.
Hugo and Karolina pull aside Kendall and Roman to discuss the PR strategy for announcing their takeover. Given Kendall's string of company-related controversies, Hugo proposes that they draft a statement casting doubt on Logan's judgment in the time leading up to his death, even suggesting that they invoke sordid details such as his abusive parenting, to make it appear that his sons were already running the company toward the end of Logan's life. Roman is disgusted by the idea and immediately shuts it down. However, Kendall later approaches Hugo privately and uses his knowledge of his daughter's insider trading to blackmail Hugo into going ahead with the more aggressive PR strategy without Roman's or Karolina's knowledge. He argues that his father would have done the same.
S4E5 · Kill List
Kendall arrives at Waystar for his first day as co-CEO with Roman. The company learns GoJo wants Waystar's entire executive team to attend their annual corporate retreat in Norway to assess their "cultural fit", which the old guard takes as a sign that Matsson is indeed interested in going through with the acquisition; however, the siblings see it as an affront given the recent death of their father. The Roys' price minimum is $144 per share.
In Norway, however, Matsson surprises Kendall and Roman with an offer of $187 per share for Waystar's whole operation—including ATN, which was not part of the original terms. Kendall and Roman are uncomfortable selling their father's prized possession while the senior team is eager to push the sale through for the increased price. Shiv also informs her brothers that ATN is colluding with Jeryd Mencken's presidential campaign; she is content to give ATN up due to the network's right-wing politics and the potential scandal that would arise if news of the collusion was leaked.
Later in the day, the two sides sit down together over a meal. Tom and Greg attempt to gain favor with the GoJo team, while the other Waystar executives - particularly Hugo - take antagonistic approaches to their counterparts. The siblings attempt to renegotiate the terms of the deal with Matsson so they can keep ATN, arguing that he fundamentally misunderstands its value, but Matsson refuses to budge. Roman eventually agrees to pass on his offer to the board, but that night, Kendall tells Roman he wants to torpedo the entire deal so the two of them can continue running Waystar.
Roman is initially apprehensive defying his father's dying wish, but eventually agrees; neither of them inform Shiv. They agree that Matsson must be manipulated into backing out of the deal himself since either of them calling it off would violate their fiduciary duty to shareholders and consequently get them fired by the board. Kendall later tasks Greg with leaking to the press that Waystar and GoJo's teams are not getting along, hoping to place pressure on Matsson to back out of an acquisition.
Shiv, meanwhile, meets privately with Matsson, who reveals that he was romantically involved with Ebba, his head of PR, but that after the relationship soured, he repeatedly sent her half a liter of his own frozen blood. Shiv, both disturbed and amused, advises him on how to avoid a public scandal and recommends him to Gerri. Matsson tells Shiv he enjoys her company and that she reminds him of Logan.
The next morning, Kendall and Roman ride a cable car to meet Matsson atop a mountain; Roman is unsettled when Connor, who is planning Logan's funeral, sends him an image of Logan's corpse. On the mountain, Matsson, who has deduced the brothers' attempts to botch the deal, confronts them, telling them their father would be embarrassed by their incompetence, and threatening to bypass them by going directly to Waystar's senior brass to see the deal through. Roman snaps and berates Matsson for summoning them to the retreat mere days after Logan's death, and openly calls off the deal. Matsson, however, is amused, claiming Roman has played into his hands.
On the return flight, the company learns Matsson has made a new offer of $192 per share; Matsson delivers the offer through Frank and refuses to speak directly with Roman and Kendall. The senior executives are elated and immediately pass the offer on to the board. They applaud Kendall and Roman, unaware they were actually trying to ruin the deal. However, they learn that Matsson plans to retain most of his own executive team rather than Waystar's, with only Tom, Gerri, and Karolina getting to keep their jobs. Matsson calls Shiv and asks her to send him a photo of her brothers' dismayed faces. Shiv then tasks Tom with firing Cyd for conspiring with Mencken's campaign and invites him to dinner upon their return home.
S4E6 · Living+
The Roys prepare for Waystar's Investor Day event in Los Angeles, where Kendall and Roman plan to launch "Living+", a luxury assisted living community Logan had proposed as a business venture prior to his death. Matsson dislikes the idea and, meeting Shiv en route to the event, tells her to convince her brothers to call it off. Shiv refuses; Matsson reveals that his negotiation with Kendall and Roman in Norway turned hostile.
In Los Angeles, Kendall and Roman falsely tell Waystar's senior executives that it is in fact Matsson who is apprehensive about the GoJo deal and behaved erratically; Gerri still promises that the deal is viable. After the others leave, Shiv confronts her brothers, who admit they dislike the deal and apologize for not telling her. Shiv later has an emotional moment to herself in an unused meeting room; Tom enters unexpectedly but comforts her, and the two share a kiss.
Roman visits Waystar Studios to meet with its division head, Joy Palmer, after the disastrous production of their latest big-budget film. Roman promises Joy the company's full financial support to accelerate the production of profitable content, but she expresses concerns about ATN's favorable coverage of Jeryd Mencken's campaign, which has subjected the studio to increased scrutiny. Roman accuses Joy of not taking him seriously as the company leader and impulsively fires her.
That night, Shiv and Tom begin to reconnect romantically; Tom admits he betrayed Shiv to preserve his career prospects and status, confiding that he felt his loyalties caught between Shiv and her father. Gerri, meanwhile, takes Roman aside to chastise him for firing Joy without going through proper HR and legal channels, accusing him of being unfit to run the company. Roman angrily fires Gerri as well for disrespecting him; he immediately regrets his decision and seeks advice from Kendall, who is surprised but approves, newly energized over the product launch.
Kendall prepares an outlandish pitch for Living+ that includes wildly optimistic earnings projections, hoping to draw enough investment interest at the event to drive up Waystar's stock price and render the GoJo acquisition untenable. Shiv, concerned that Kendall is entering another manic spiral and facing increasing pressure from Matsson, asks Roman to talk Kendall out of making his speech. Roman, however, can only bring himself to back out of his own role in the presentation, leaving Kendall to deliver it himself. Before Kendall takes the stage, Karl warns him that he will go public with his objections if Kendall makes earnings promises that the company can't deliver.
Despite a shaky start, Kendall ultimately delivers a successful speech, incorporating video footage of Logan that Greg had edited to include a promise of doubling Waystar's parks revenue. Matsson attempts to sabotage the speech by mocking the product in a Tweet that alludes to the Holocaust, but Kendall allays the audience's concerns during a Q&A session, while Shiv privately convinces Matsson to delete the Tweet. Waystar's stock price ultimately increases due to positive press coverage of Kendall's presentation. Afterward, Shiv and Tom plan a pre-election party at their home; Roman repeatedly listens to an edited video of Logan mocking him that Kendall had sent him as a joke; Kendall enjoys a cathartic swim at the beach.
S4E7 · Tailgate Party
One day before the presidential election, Shiv and Tom prepare to host the Roys' traditional pre-election party for business and political insiders at their apartment; Matsson declines the invitation. Kendall learns from Rava that their daughter Sophie felt threatened by an encounter with an ATN viewer. The siblings meet for lunch to plan Logan's funeral; there, none of them volunteer to give a speech at the funeral. However, Kendall and Roman get Shiv's permission to invite Nate to the party, hoping to use his bipartisan connections with lawmakers to amass a regulatory push against GoJo's acquisition of Waystar. After her brothers leave, Shiv calls Matsson and demands his presence at the party to prevent her brothers from sabotaging the deal.
Tom has Greg lay off hundreds of ATN employees before arriving at the party. Roman learns Connor's polling numbers are redirecting support from Mencken, and attempts to convince Connor to drop out of the race, offering him an ambassadorship under Mencken's administration, but Connor refuses. Kendall makes a toast in Logan's honor; Matsson appears in the middle of a moment of silence, having brought Oskar and Ebba with him. Shiv takes Matsson to network with the guests in order to secure support for the acquisition; he implies to Nate that Tom will be fired from his leadership of ATN once the deal goes through. Shiv does not dissuade this news, which begins spreading around the party.
Kendall attempts to enlist Nate's help in building a regulatory case against GoJo, offering that ATN sympathetically covers Nate's candidate Daniel Jiménez in his first 100 days in exchange. Nate, however, is uncomfortable accepting a bribe and leaves the party. Roman, meanwhile, learns of Matsson's harassment case involving Ebba, which he and Kendall see as further ammunition against Matsson. Shiv asks for Matsson's assurance that she will retain a major role at the company under his leadership, to which he remains noncommittal.
After a dispute at the party between Matsson and Ebba, Kendall and Roman learn from Ebba that her relationship with Matsson is in fact the least of his scandals: she reveals that he outsourced most of GoJo's code despite claiming to have written it himself - his public persona largely PR-constructed - and that he has grossly inflated the company's subscriber count in India. Matsson admits the latter to Shiv but believes the scandal will perish amidst the high-profile acquisition. Kendall, now emboldened by this news, verbally spars with Matsson in front of onlookers, leading the GoJo team to leave the party with Greg, whom they have taken a liking to.
Roman finds Gerri and apologizes for firing her, passing it off as an overreaction, but she refuses to return to Waystar, having already negotiated a hefty severance agreement that includes no negative publicity around her exit. She threatens to sue Roman and publicize the explicit photos he sent to her if her demands are not met.
Tom takes Shiv to talk privately on their balcony, where he chastises her for allowing rumors of his firing to spread throughout the party. Shiv insists it was merely a move to appease shareholders ahead of the acquisition, but confides her fear that Matsson's many scandals jeopardize her family's future. Tom claims Shiv will survive because of her opportunism, prompting a vicious argument between the two about their marriage. Shiv accuses Tom of only marrying her for power and status and blames his betrayal in Italy for the time she did not get to spend with Logan in the final months of his life.
Tom insists he genuinely loves Shiv, but rebukes her for her infidelity, her refusal to have his child, and for standing idle during his near-imprisonment; he tells her she is "incapable of love" and unfit to be a mother. Shiv leaves without telling Tom about her pregnancy.
Kendall, meanwhile, privately suggests to Frank that Waystar buy GoJo with him as the sole CEO. Roman offers to his siblings to deliver the eulogy at Logan's funeral. Shiv and Tom spend the night in separate beds, neither of them able to sleep.
S4E8 · America Decides
The night of the presidential election, Tom braces himself to manage the ATN newsroom, using cocaine to help fight his sleep deprivation. Greg, who went out for drinks with Matsson and his team the previous night, tells Tom of Shiv and Matsson's covert alliance.
The siblings disagree about which candidate to support. Roman continues to back far-right Congressman Jeryd Mencken, who he knows will advance Waystar's agenda. Shiv, still secretly aligned with Matsson and concerned about the threat Mencken represents to American democracy, backs Democrat Daniel Jiménez, who she believes will allow the GoJo deal to go through. Kendall receives a call from Rava, who reiterates her and Sophie's fear about the consequences of Mencken winning. He then calls Nate and unsuccessfully attempts to convince him and Jiménez to block the GoJo deal. Roman is summoned to meet face-to-face with Mencken, who asks him to frame the election as a victory for Mencken regardless of whether he actually wins the vote, promising Roman significant influence under his presidency.
A voting center in Milwaukee is set on fire, destroying thousands of ballots that likely would have gone to Jiménez given the county's liberal-majority electorate. Shiv reminds her siblings that the absentee ballots must be accounted for in order for the Wisconsin vote to be valid, but Roman attempts to use the situation to call the vote in Wisconsin early for Mencken. Shiv takes Tom aside and attempts to apologize for their fight the previous night, but the conversation quickly turns hostile; when Shiv reveals to him she is pregnant, Tom expresses skepticism, suspecting this is just another tactic to manipulate him. Roman allows ATN anchor Mark Ravenhead to accuse the Democrats of the firebombing, alarming Matsson. Shiv attempts to threaten Greg into silence about her collusion with Matsson.
Roman reports to Kendall that Mencken has promised to block the GoJo deal in exchange for ATN's support. ATN poll analyst Darwin Perry warns Roman and Tom that ATN could lose credibility by calling the vote in Wisconsin prematurely, but Roman ignores his concerns, and Tom suggests they make a "pending" call in Wisconsin for Mencken, with Darwin on air to explain the caveat. However, chaos ensues when Darwin accidentally gets wasabi in his eyes, preventing him from going on air; Tom then greenlights ATN to officially call Wisconsin for Mencken. Connor arrives at the newsroom, having decided to concede the race and support Mencken in exchange for being named the U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia. He gives a rambling yet headstrong concession speech, which is aired live on ATN.
Jiménez wins Michigan, placing both candidates at 262 electoral votes, with only Alaska and Arizona yet to be called. Darwin projects a win for Mencken in Arizona, but cautions against calling the election given the uncertainty in Wisconsin. Kendall takes Roman aside to express his qualms about endangering his family, while Roman continues to trivialize the political consequences in favor of his own self-interest. Torn between his family and business interests, Kendall confides his anxieties about failing his children to Shiv, who attempts to appeal to his sense of morality to sway him away from Mencken.
Kendall asks Shiv to call Nate to inquire whether Jiménez is willing to block the GoJo sale, but Shiv merely pretends to make the call, and gives vague answers to her brothers about Jiménez's stance. Kendall learns the truth when he calls Jiménez's team himself and subsequently confirms with Greg that Shiv is working with Matsson.
Feeling hurt by his sister's betrayal, Kendall throws in his support for Mencken, ignoring Shiv's pleas to consider the danger Mencken poses to the American political system. Tom orders Greg to inform the newsroom of the decision to call the election for Mencken, and he hesitatingly obeys. ATN announces Mencken as the winner of the election, and PGN begins airing reports naming Tom responsible for prematurely calling the vote. Shiv calls Matsson to promise to undo the damage and bring down Waystar. On his way home, an ashamed Kendall calls Rava and asks to see his children. She refuses, leaving him to ponder his decision.
S4E9 · Church and State
The morning after the presidential election, the Roys prepare for Logan's funeral as protests break out in the streets. Kendall is enraged to learn from Rava that she will be taking the kids upstate to avoid the unrest rather than attend the funeral, and unsuccessfully attempts to stop her from leaving. Kendall is further agitated when he learns that Jess is planning to quit her job as his assistant, which Kendall believes is because of ATN's role in electing Mencken.
Shiv, meanwhile, advises Matsson to release the news of his dubious subscriber counts in India, given it will receive relatively low coverage due to the election fallout and Logan's funeral. En route to the funeral, she tells Kendall and Roman about her pregnancy. Tom has skipped the funeral to perform post-election damage control at ATN, with The New York Times having published a timeline of events that implicates Tom in the decision to prematurely call the election for Mencken.
At the funeral service, Shiv speaks with Matsson and proposes making a deal with Mencken to allow the GoJo sale through in exchange for Matsson naming an American as Waystar's CEO. Shiv nominates herself, but Matsson is lukewarm, questioning her inexperience and ability to effectively perform while pregnant and as a new mother. Caroline arrives and immediately realizes that Shiv is pregnant. Later, she finds Kerry and introduces her and Marcia to Sally-Anne, Logan's mistress during his marriage to Caroline, and the four women share a moment together.
As the eulogies begin, Ewan goes up to the podium to speak despite Greg and Shiv's attempt to stop him. He lends insight into his and Logan's troubled childhood, including the fact that their aunt and uncle blamed Logan for their sister Rose's death by polio. He then lambasts his brother for his corrupt influence on the world, as well as the people in attendance at the funeral for their lavish lifestyle.
Roman then nervously attempts to give his eulogy, but he becomes overwhelmed on seeing Logan's coffin and breaks down crying, asking to remove the body from the church. His siblings comfort him, and Kendall goes to speak in his place. In an impromptu eulogy, Kendall reflects positively on the "terrible force" of Logan's capitalist ambition, and the impact his success had on the lives of others. Shiv speaks last, describing the precious rarity of receiving love from her cold father as well as the struggles of being the daughter of a man who did not understand women.
The family then goes to Logan's committal at a mausoleum he had purchased. Kendall instructs Hugo to spread rumors of internal opposition within Waystar to the GoJo deal, enlisting him as a key aide in his planned takeover of Waystar.
At a reception after the funeral, Kendall offers to hire Colin as his own bodyguard, then attempts to negotiate with Mencken; however, the meeting is quickly derailed when Greg, Roman, and Connor swarm around him as well. Shiv brings Mencken to meet with Matsson, where the two pitch for the sale to go through with an American CEO. Tom finally arrives at the reception and shares a moment with Shiv and Caroline. Matsson later calls Shiv to report that Mencken has accepted the terms of their deal; Shiv is elated, believing her position as CEO of Waystar is secured.
Kendall, meanwhile, enlists Roman's aid in working against Shiv at the impending board meeting, where the deal will be finalized. Kendall bluntly tells Roman that he "fucked it" at the funeral and with Mencken. Videos begin to circulate of Roman's breakdown at the funeral. Roman, feeling overwhelmed by the funeral and ashamed of his failure, walks into a crowd of protesters on the street and provokes them into beating him.
S4E10 · With Open Eyes
Kendall scrambles to vote down the GoJo acquisition before the board meeting, while Shiv and Matsson are confident their coalition will vote in favor. Kendall and Shiv fly to Caroline's residence in Barbados after learning that Roman is recovering from his wounds there. En route, Shiv calls Tom to ask they give their relationship a second chance, but he is hesitant.
Tom meets with Matsson, who admits that his sexual attraction to Shiv would cause complications in the workplace and offers Tom the CEO role instead. Greg overhears Matsson talking with Oskar in Swedish and uses a translator app to learn that Shiv will not be named CEO; he informs Kendall, who convinces Shiv to turn against Matsson. As only a single CEO will satisfy the board, Shiv and Roman form a bloc and reluctantly endorse Kendall despite their doubts about his competence. The siblings share a playful moment in Caroline's kitchen, where they "anoint" Kendall with a smoothie of random unappetizing ingredients.
The three return to New York the next day, where Connor and Willa are dividing Logan's assets. The siblings become emotional watching a home video of Logan enjoying a dinner with Kerry, Connor, and his senior cadre, where Karl sings Robert Burns ' song "Green Grow the Rushes". Shiv is irate to learn from Tom that Matsson has picked him to be CEO, and declares that enough votes are secured to stop the deal. The siblings race to the Waystar headquarters to amass an opposition to the deal while Tom berates Greg for leaking the news of his appointment as CEO, leading to a brief physical fight between the two.
Before the board meeting, Roman glimpses Gerri in the office and breaks down, wondering why he could not have been CEO; Kendall hugs him so hard that Roman's stitches burst, causing some bleeding. Roman votes against the deal at the board meeting as expected, leaving Shiv to cast the deciding vote. However, Shiv becomes reluctant. After the three siblings go to a meeting room to try and find a solution, Shiv expresses her doubts that Kendall would be a good CEO, causing Kendall to panic. She cites his accidental killing of Andrew Dodds, but Kendall frantically claims that it never happened and that he made up the story to feel closer to his siblings, angering and confusing Roman and Shiv.
Kendall asserts he deserves to be CEO as the eldest sibling —ignoring that Connor is actually the eldest sibling— but Roman retorts that Shiv's pregnancy actually carries on the Roy bloodline since Logan did not consider Kendall's children legitimate. An enraged Kendall attacks Roman, convincing Shiv to vote for the deal. A despondent Roman tells Kendall that he, his siblings, and the company itself are "bullshit".
As Waystar's new CEO, Tom elects to retain Gerri, Greg, and Karolina, whilst planning to fire Frank, Hugo, and Karl. On their drive home, Tom and Shiv silently touch hands. Roman has a moment to himself at a bar. A devastated Kendall walks around Battery Park, shadowed by his bodyguard Colin.
