Jamie's earlier times at Ardsmuir Prison resurface when Tom Christie brings his community to Fraser's Ridge. Claire is making ether to use as anaesthetic in her practice, as well as using it to cope with flashbacks from the incident with Lionel Brown. Jamie is asked by the Governor to act as an Indian liaison with the Cherokee, highlighting the conflict in his mind about supporting the Loyalists or the Rebels in the upcoming revolution.
