S1E1 · The Crocodile's Dilemma
In January 2006, Lorne Malvo hits a deer while driving on a highway outside Bemidji, Minnesota. A nearly naked man escapes from the trunk and runs into the woods. In town, insurance salesman Lester Nygaard runs into his childhood bully Sam Hess, who intimidates Lester and causes him to break his nose. Lester meets Malvo in the hospital and tells him about Hess; Malvo casually suggests murdering him, which Lester neither approves nor rejects. Malvo later kills Hess, telling Lester he never said no to the idea. Police chief Vern Thurman and police officer Molly Solverson discover the bodies of both Hess and Malvo's kidnapped man, and learn that Lester was overheard discussing Hess with Malvo. At his house, Lester gets into an argument with his verbally abusive wife, Pearl, and impulsively kills her with a hammer. Vern arrives to question him, but Malvo, whom Lester summoned to help, kills Vern and disappears. Lester knocks himself out to make the killings look like a home invasion. In Duluth, Malvo is pulled over for speeding by officer Gus Grimly, but threatens Gus into letting him go.
S1E2 · The Rooster Prince
Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers, two hitmen, arrive in Bemidji searching for Hess' killer. Hess's attorney directs them to a strip club with a description of Malvo. After abducting the wrong man, Wrench and Numbers drop him into an ice fishing hole. Meanwhile, Bill Oswalt is promoted to police chief, and he and Molly immediately clash over suspects. She suspects Lester is connected to the driver in the car accident as well as the murders of Hess, Pearl, and Vern; Oswalt believes a lone drifter was responsible. In Duluth, Stavros Milos, the "Supermarket King" of Minnesota, hires Malvo to uncover who is blackmailing him. News about the Bemidji murders reaches the Duluth Police Department, and Gus realizes the car he pulled over could have been tied to it.
S1E3 · A Muddy Road
Molly learns that the frozen man found in the woods had been abducted from his workplace in St. Paul, probably due to gambling debts; a security camera image shows the kidnapper's partially obscured face. Wrench and Numbers observe Lester meeting Gina Hess, Sam's widow, regarding Sam's life insurance policy. They later visit Lester's office to interrogate him, but leave when Molly unexpectedly arrives. Molly lets Lester glimpse Malvo's photo, and his reaction convinces her he recognizes him. Malvo identifies Don Chumph, Mrs. Milos' fitness instructor, as Stavros' blackmailer. He takes over the blackmail scheme and begins exploiting Stavros' staunch religious beliefs, killing Stavros' dog, replacing his medication with Adderall, and causing pig's blood to flow out of Stavros' shower head. Gus finally reports to his lieutenant that he let Malvo off for speeding, then visits Bemidji to discuss the murders with Molly.
S1E4 · Eating the Blame
In 1987, the Milos family car runs out of gas along a deserted highway in winter. Heavily in debt, Stavros prays for help. Stepping outside the car, he finds a satchel filled with money buried in the snow. In 2006, Malvo continues terrorizing Stavros and leads him to believe himself subject to biblical plagues. Gus spots Malvo near Stavros' house and arrests him. He calls Molly to Duluth, but Chief Oswalt overrules her and goes instead. Malvo provides documentation identifying himself as a Christian minister with a plausible alibi, leading to his release; Gus confronts him as he leaves. Numbers and Wrench kidnap Lester, but he escapes and assaults a nearby police officer to get arrested and taken to safety. Wrench and Numbers later get themselves arrested and placed in Lester's cell.
S1E5 · The Six Ungraspables
In jail, Wrench and Numbers forcefully obtain Malvo's name from Lester. They are released, but Lester is taken to the hospital with a severe infection from a stray shotgun pellet that struck his hand when Vern was shot by Malvo. Lester had been concealing the wound, knowing it proves he was in the room when Vern was killed. With this new evidence, Molly convinces Oswalt that the recent events are related. With Stavros close to paying the blackmail demand, Malvo locks Chumph in Chumph's kitchen pantry overnight to prevent him from ruining the scheme. After Malvo drives Stavros home, he spots Gus parked near the house and follows him home. Outside, Malvo is confronted by Gus' neighbor, whom Malvo threatens before driving away.
S1E6 · Buridan's Ass
Malvo has Chumph call Stavros, who is ready to pay off the ransom. Malvo then restrains Chumph to a bench in his entryway, tapes an unloaded shotgun in his hands, then uses a rifle to fire randomly into the neighborhood. He leaves before police storm the house, killing Chumph. In Duluth, Molly and Gus are alerted to gunshots and arrive at a car wreck staged by Wrench and Numbers to trap Malvo. A gunfight ensues amidst a snowy whiteout. Malvo ambushes Numbers, forces him to reveal who hired him, then kills him. A blinded Gus hears shots and accidentally shoots Molly. Stavros buries the blackmail money in the same spot he found the satchel of cash. He believes God has now forgiven him for having taken the satchel, but later discovers his bodyguard and son have been killed in a freak auto accident. In Bemidji, Lester sneaks out of the hospital and plants the murder weapon and other incriminating evidence in his brother Chazz's gun cabinet after Chazz disowns him. He also places an unloaded handgun in his nephew Gordo's backpack, then returns undetected to his hospital room.
S1E7 · Who Shaves the Barber?
The gun Lester placed in Gordo's backpack is discovered at his school, prompting police to search Chazz's home and discover the evidence Lester planted. Lester concocts a story to the police framing Chazz for Pearl and Vern's murders, leading to Chazz's incarceration and Lester's release. Lester later seduces Gina Hess with false promises of inflating her payout from Sam's insurance policy, despite knowing it was cancelled. An injured Molly questions a hospitalized Wrench and tells him Numbers is dead, but Wrench, who is deaf, refuses to cooperate. Malvo travels to Fargo, North Dakota and murders 22 people associated with Wrench and Numbers' employers; the two FBI agents stationed nearby notice the scene too late.
S1E8 · The Heap
Lester gains a newfound confidence after evading justice for the murders, throwing away Pearl's belongings and starting a new life. Gina, accompanied by her two sons, storms into Lester's office demanding payment from Sam's cancelled insurance policy, but Lester sternly rebuffs her and the two boys, impressing his coworker Linda Park. Molly returns to work and unsuccessfully attempts to reopen the investigation into Lester. In Duluth, Malvo kills a police guard then tells Wrench that he killed Numbers, giving him the keys to his handcuffs and encouraging him to try avenging Numbers' death in the future. In Fargo, FBI agents Budge and Pepper, who were on surveillance during Malvo's rampage, are demoted to filing clerks. A year later, Gus, now a mailman, is happily married to Molly, who is pregnant. In Las Vegas, Lester, who has married Linda, receives an award for salesman of the year. While at the hotel bar, he spots Malvo, who has changed his appearance and name.
S1E9 · A Fox, a Rabbit, and a Cabbage
Lester confronts Malvo, following him and his companions into the elevator and demanding that Malvo acknowledge him. Instead, Malvo kills his two friends and his new fiancee, furious that Lester made him blow his cover and cost him a large bounty. Lester strikes Malvo with his award and escapes the hotel with Linda, insisting they immediately fly home. The next day, the Las Vegas police department reviews hotel surveillance footage and calls the Bemidji police to report Lester as a witness in the murders. Molly interviews Lester at his new house, but he pleads ignorance. In Fargo, Budge and Pepper act on a new tip from Molly regarding Malvo and travel to Bemidji to meet with her, where they are impressed by the evidence she has amassed. Malvo arrives in Bemidji, where Gus briefly spots him driving by. Lester hastily arranges a vacation with Linda; the two stop by his office to retrieve their passports and cash, but Lester, fearing Malvo's presence, sends Linda into the office wearing his hooded jacket. He watches Malvo shoot Linda after mistaking her for Lester.
S1E10 · Morton's Fork
Lester erases evidence of his presence from the scene of Linda's murder before anonymously calling the police to report gunshots. The police discover Linda's body and question Lester before releasing him. Molly's father Lou, a retired cop turned coffee shop owner, tells Gus that Malvo may be back in Bemidji. Gus later spots Malvo exit a cabin and drive away. Budge and Pepper drive Lester home, unaware that Malvo is following them in a car stolen from a dealership. The agents remain on watch outside Lester's house, but Malvo ambushes and kills them both. Lester hides from Malvo and sets a bear trap in his bedroom that maims Malvo's leg, forcing him to flee the house. Malvo returns to his cabin to treat his injury, but Gus surprises Malvo and, just before the latter can try to speak, Gus shoots him in the face and kills him. He later shows Molly a briefcase containing Malvo's various tape recordings, including that of Lester confessing to killing Pearl. Two weeks later, police track Lester to Montana, where he attempts to flee, only to fall through thin ice to his death. Molly is informed of the scene at home, where she and Gus celebrate the end of the case.
Season 2
S2E1 · Waiting for Dutch
In March of 1979, Otto Gerhardt, patriarch of the Gerhardt crime family in Fargo, North Dakota, is incapacitated by a stroke, potentially jeopardizing their dynasty's leadership and sending two of his sons, Dodd and Bear, into a power struggle. At a Waffle Hut near Luverne, Minnesota, Otto's third son Rye attempts to extort a judge into unfreezing the assets of his business partner Skip Sprang, but ends up murdering her and two restaurant employees. Wounded, he sees an apparent UFO and stumbles into the road, only to be struck by a passing car. The driver, beautician Peggy Blumquist, assumes Rye to be dead and hides him in her garage. Her husband Ed, a butcher, discovers Rye alive and stabs him to death after being attacked. The two elect to keep the incident a secret and hide the corpse in their meat freezer. State trooper Lou Solverson and Sheriff Hank Larsson (Lou's father-in-law) begin investigating the diner murders. At home, Lou tends for his cancer-stricken wife Betsy and their daughter Molly. In light of Otto's stroke, members of a Kansas City-based syndicate make plans to move on Fargo.
S2E2 · Before the Law
Otto's wife Floyd is approached by Joe Bulo of the Kansas City mafia, who offers her a buyout of her family operation that keeps the Gerhardts' leadership intact. Dodd bristles at his mother running the business, but acquiesces when Floyd names him her successor after the situation settles. Floyd demands Rye be found. Bulo's associates Mike Milligan and the twin Kitchen brothers also begin searching for Rye. While driving into town, Lou stops by the Waffle Hut crime scene, where Betsy finds Rye's gun. That night, Lou stops by Ed's butcher shop to buy bacon, unaware that Ed is disposing of Rye's body in the meat grinder.
S2E3 · The Myth of Sisyphus
The police begin searching for Rye after his fingerprints are identified on the gun from the Waffle Hut; Milligan, Dodd, and the latter's henchman Hanzee independently search for Rye themselves. At the beauty salon, Betsy speculates to Hank (her father) that Rye is the victim of a hit-and-run. Peggy overhears this, and convinces Ed to crash her car a second time to hide evidence of Rye's murder. Lou travels to Fargo, where he and Detective Ben Schmidt travel to the Gerhardt farm and have a tense encounter with Floyd and her sons. Lou then visits Skip's typewriter store, where he has a standoff with Milligan and the Kitchen brothers. Dodd's rebellious daughter Simone points Hanzee to Skip, who is brought to Dodd for interrogation. After determining that Skip has no information on Rye's whereabouts, Dodd has Skip buried alive, then directs Hanzee to look for Rye in Luverne.
S2E4 · Fear and Trembling
As Otto is being taken to a doctor's appointment, Simone has sex with Milligan, inadvertently mentioning the doctor visit. The Kitchens then eliminate Otto's guards in the parking lot outside the medical clinic, leaving Otto unharmed, but unguarded. Meanwhile, Floyd, Dodd, and Bear meet with Bulo and propose a counter-offer to his buyout in the form of a partnership. Bulo balks at the idea, since Dodd assaulted two of his men earlier that same day. Bulo phones his superiors, who reject the Gerhardts' proposal. They now offer two million dollars less than the first offer and demand the Gerhardts' complete surrender. In Luverne, Hanzee's investigation leads him to find Rye's belt buckle in the Blumquist fireplace. Lou talks to the Blumquists regarding his suspicions that they are involved in Rye's death, but they stubbornly refuse to cooperate. He warns them of the Gerhardts' violent history. At the Gerhardt farm, Floyd tells the family to prepare for war.
S2E5 · The Gift of the Magi
Lou is temporarily taken off the Waffle Hut murder case while working a security detail for presidential candidate Ronald Reagan. Dodd and Hanzee concoct a story characterizing Ed as a hitman called "The Butcher" hired by Kansas City to kill Rye, in an attempt to rile Floyd into waging war. On Floyd's orders, Hanzee kills Bulo and a Kitchen brother, and sends the former's head to Milligan. Milligan later threatens Simone into spying on her family for him. Dodd sends his henchman Virgil to kill Ed, accompanied by Bear's naive son Charlie. Peggy heeds Lou's warning and plans to leave for California, but Ed insists on staying. Peggy ultimately sells her car to get the down payment to purchase the butcher shop. The assassination attempt on Ed ends with Virgil dead, Charlie hospitalized, and the butcher shop ablaze. Ed returns home and decides to leave town with Peggy, only to learn she sold their car. The police arrive on the Blumquists' doorstep.
S2E6 · Rhinoceros
Ed is arrested and brought to the police station for questioning, while Hank interrogates Peggy at her house. Floyd demands "The Butcher" executed and Charlie released from jail; Dodd and his men go to the Blumquists' in search of Ed, while Bear fetches for Charlie. Hanzee knocks out Hank, but Peggy subdues Dodd in her basement using a cattle prod. Karl Weathers, Luverne's only attorney, is summoned to the station to represent Ed. Bear and his men arrive soon after; realizing Ed will be killed, Lou sneaks him out a rear window while Weathers convinces Bear to leave. Hank drives back into town and intercepts Lou and Ed, but Ed runs off, with Hanzee in pursuit. While the Gerhardts depart, Simone calls Milligan and asks him to murder her father as revenge for Dodd's abuse. Milligan and his men arrive at the Gerhardt farm and open fire with Simone, Floyd, and Otto inside.
S2E7 · Did You Do This? No, You Did It!
Otto is killed in Milligan's raid on the farm, escalating the war between Fargo and Kansas City. Lou and Ben arrive after Otto's funeral and take Floyd to the station for questioning. She eventually accepts a deal that absolves her family for their past crimes in exchange for information on the inner workings of the Kansas City drug operation. Bear drives Simone to a secluded forest and shoots her for betraying the family. Lou asks Weathers to keep an eye on his family; Betsy claims to Weathers she has received placebo pills for her treatments, and wants Weathers to look after her family after she is gone. Betsy later goes to her father's house to feed his cat, but discovers his office filled with strange drawings and symbols. Milligan's superiors call him to inform him that an "Undertaker" has been sent to take over his end of the operation; when he arrives, Milligan kills him and his men, intending to blame the murder on the Gerhardts. He then receives a call from Ed, who says he has Dodd hostage in his trunk.
S2E8 · Loplop
Ed rushes back home; he and Peggy put Dodd in the trunk of his car and hide out in a relative's hunting cabin in South Dakota, unaware that Hanzee is pursuing them. At a gas station, Ed makes several unsuccessful phone calls to the Gerhardts to bargain for Dodd's freedom. He finally comes to an agreement with Milligan, and prepares to meet him at a motel in Sioux Falls the next morning. However, Dodd gets loose, incapacitates Peggy, and hangs Ed; Peggy knocks Dodd unconscious in time to save her husband. A manhunt ensues for Hanzee after he shoots five individuals at a bar; he finds Peggy's coworker Constance and forces her to trick Peggy into revealing her whereabouts over the phone, to no avail. A gas station attendant calls the police after he recognizes Hanzee in his shop. Hanzee finds the cabin, shoots Dodd in the head, and asks Peggy for a haircut. Peggy stabs Hanzee in the back as Lou and Hank arrive, forcing Hanzee to flee.
S2E9 · The Castle
Lou and Hank call in the South Dakota Highway Patrol after recapturing the Blumquists. The Patrol's Captain Cheney hatches a reckless plan for Ed and Peggy to wear a wire to the meeting with Milligan. Lou strongly opposes the idea, prompting Cheney to have him escorted out of the state while Hank stays behind. The Blumquists agree to the plan in exchange for lesser charges, and the police set up an ambush at the motel. Hanzee lies to Floyd and Bear that Dodd is being held in the motel by the Kansas City mob. Lou stops at the gas station to call home, unaware that Betsy has collapsed, and discovers that Hanzee has killed the attendant. He rushes to warn the others, but arrives to find the Gerhardts in a shootout with Cheney's team. All but Ben and a wounded Hank are killed; Floyd realizes Hanzee's deception before he stabs her to death. Bear attempts to strangle Lou, but a UFO suddenly appears above the motel, allowing Lou to shoot a distracted Bear. The Blumquists flee with Hanzee in pursuit, while police reinforcements arrive.
S2E10 · Palindrome
Hanzee shoots Ed while he and Peggy flee. The two take shelter in the meat locker of a supermarket. Ed eventually succumbs to his blood loss, causing Peggy to have a mental breakdown and hallucinate that Hanzee has set the supermarket ablaze to smoke them out, mirroring a film she watched earlier. When she exits the locker, she is met by Lou, who arrests her. On the drive back to Minnesota, the two converse about her life and the killings. Hanzee receives a new identity from a confidant in a park, where he also rescues a pair of young boys, one of whom is deaf, from a schoolyard bully whom he attacks violently. Milligan is promoted after taking credit for wiping out the Gerhardts, to find himself working in management from a small corporate office. Betsy recovers from the side effects of her chemotherapy drugs; she, Lou, and Hank gather as a family, with no one able to explain the UFO. Hank tells them that the symbols in his office were his attempt at creating a universal language to promote better global cooperation. The three ponder what the future holds.
Season 3
S3E1 · The Law of Vacant Places
In East Berlin, 1988, a man is falsely accused of the murder of Helga Albrecht, committed by "Yuri Gurka", because the men lived at the same address at different times. In December 2010, St. Cloud, Minnesota, parking lot realtor Emmit Stussy denies his estranged parole officer brother Ray's request for a loan so he can buy a ring for his parolee and girlfriend Nikki Swango. Ray blackmails parolee Maurice LeFay into stealing the last remaining stamp from their deceased father's valuable collection. LeFay goes to the wrong house and kills its occupant, the elderly Ennis Stussy. Ennis's stepdaughter and Eden Valley chief of police Gloria Burgle finds his body, as well as a box hidden under his floorboards. Emmit and his confidant Sy Feltz are visited by V.M. Varga, a representative of a company they took a loan from, who announces his plan to partner with them. LeFay meets Ray at Nikki's apartment and tries to blackmail him for money. As he leaves, Nikki has Ray help her drop an air conditioner on LeFay's head, killing him.
S3E2 · The Principle of Restricted Choice
Searching the box, Gloria learns that Ennis wrote science fiction under the name "Thaddeus Mobley". She visits a gas station LeFay got Ennis's address from, deducing that he was looking for him specifically due to him tearing Ennis's page of the phone book out. Ray visits Emmit to try and resolve their feud, but it is a ploy for Nikki to break into his house while he is distracted and take the stamp. She is unable to find it and vandalizes his office. Sy warns Ray never to contact Emmit again, intentionally hitting his car while he leaves but accidentally hitting another vehicle. Emmit asks his lawyer to look into Varga as he begins setting up on Emmit's properties, but when he searches the internet for Varga's name, his henchmen Yuri and Meemo kill him, staging it as a suicide.
S3E3 · The Law of Non-Contradiction
In Los Angeles, 1975, Mobley is approached by film producer Howard Zimmerman, who wants to adapt his novel The Planet Wyh. After Mobley discovers that Zimmerman and actress Vivian Lord are tricking him, he nearly kills him and takes the name "Ennis Stussy" before fleeing the state. In the present, Gloria goes to L.A. to collect information on Mobley. She approaches both the crippled Zimmerman and Vivian for information, but they deny knowing him. She encounters Paul Marrane, a strange but friendly man she met on the plane ride over, who tells her a parable that invokes the idea of Schrödinger's cat. Vivian contacts Gloria and admits the truth about what happened. Back in Minnesota, she learns that LeFay's fingerprints were found in Ennis's house and that the former died in an "accident" the same night. Throughout the episode, animated segments depict the plot of The Planet Wyh: A robot named Minsky wanders a planet for millions of years after his masters die in a crash, eventually being found by an alien race that thanks him for the information he collected over millennia before switching him off.
S3E4 · The Narrow Escape Problem
Ray disguises himself as Emmit and gains access to his safe deposit box but does not find the stamp, and withdraws money from Emmit's account. Varga comes to Emmit's house for dinner, charms his family, and frightens him into making him a partner in Stussy Lots. Gloria finds Ray's card in LeFay's wallet and visits him at his office, bumping into St. Cloud officer Winnie Lopez, who is investigating the car Sy accidentally hit. Ray blames LeFay's behavior on his history of drug abuse, being fired shortly after due to Sy tipping his boss off to his illegal relationship. Yuri and Meemo witness Lopez asking Sy about the accident. Having noticed the name of Sy's company, she does research on Emmit and informs Gloria that he and Ray are brothers, and that Emmit lives in a town with a name similar to Ennis's.
S3E5 · The House of Special Purpose
Ray again disguises himself as Emmit and makes a sex tape with Nikki. They send it to him, but his wife finds it first and leaves him. Sy is forced to drink Varga's urine out of a mug as punishment for talking to the police. Now terrified, he tries to set up a sale of Stussy Lots to businesswoman Ruby Goldfarb, but is interrupted by Emmit asking him to take care of Ray. Varga plants the idea in Emmit's head that Sy and Ray may be working together. Nikki accepts Ray's marriage proposal and is called by Sy, who agrees to give them money if they leave Emmit alone. Gloria and Lopez detain Ray for questioning, but incoming chief Moe Dammick, chalking up their evidence to coincidence, releases him and orders Gloria to drop the investigation. Nikki and Sy's meeting is interrupted by Yuri and Meemo, who brutalize Nikki when she mouths off to them.
S3E6 · The Lord of No Mercy
IRS agent Larue Dollard tries to audit Stussy Lots due to the withdrawal Ray made, but Meemo gets rid of him. Gloria tries to interview Emmit but Varga intervenes, and she is put off by his strange demeanor. When Gloria visits Ray's apartment, he and Nikki flee to a hotel, forgetting their stolen money. Unaware that Varga has ordered them killed, Ray returns to his apartment to find Emmit waiting, wanting to end their feud by giving him the stamp. They argue and the stamp's glass frame is shoved into Ray's face, breaking and puncturing his throat. Horrified, Emmit calls Varga for help, unknowingly saving Nikki's life when Varga calls Meemo before he can kill her. They stage the scene to make it seem as though Nikki killed Ray because he was abusing her. Gloria instinctively decides to visit Ray again.
S3E7 · The Law of Inevitability
Nikki is arrested after Gloria and Lopez find Ray's body. Yuri steals Ennis's case file, while Emmit voices his newfound distrust of Sy and returns home to find Varga waiting for him. He admits that he feels "free." Dammick is convinced that Nikki killed Ray, but she refuses to speak until she gets a lawyer. Varga's man Golem attempts to kill Nikki but is stopped by Gloria, though he escapes. Dammick allows her to talk to Nikki, who only tells her to "follow the money" before being escorted to a bus bound for prison, where she is seated next to Wes Wrench. Varga's men flip the bus, killing almost everyone inside, and begin cutting through its bars to get to Nikki.
S3E8 · Who Rules the Land of Denial?
Wrench helps Nikki escape the bus and the pair head into the woods, chained together at the wrists. Yuri and Golem hunt them, but the two decapitate the latter and Wrench cuts Yuri's ear off with an ax. They discover a bowling alley and are greeted by Marrane inside, who discusses the passage of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov to Uman before his death, and the Jewish belief of gilgul with Nikki before showing her a kitten that he claims is Ray's reincarnation. As they leave in a car Marrane gives them, a profusely bleeding Yuri arrives in the alley, and Marrane shows him a vision of Albrecht and the thousands of Jews his Cossack ancestors killed. On Christmas, Varga puts Sy in a coma with poison. Three months later, Stussy Lots has expanded greatly, while Gloria is now a deputy and she and Lopez are still investigating Emmit. As Emmit is plagued with reminders of Ray, Varga begins drugging him to keep him calm. Wracked with guilt, he goes to the police station and asks to confess.
S3E9 · Aporia
Varga orders Meemo to kill two men, both surnamed Stussy, in manners identical to Ennis and Ray. Emmit explains to Gloria that the feud with Ray stemmed from him convincing Ray to take their father's car after he died, leaving Emmit to take the stamps and sell them, using the money to create Stussy Lots. Despite Ray's death being an accident, he believes he deserves punishment for leaving Ray stuck in a miserable life. Dammik arrests a man who poses as Meemo and takes credit for all four deaths, giving him a story about his hatred of men with the name Stussy, which invalidates Emmit's testimony and forces Gloria to set him free. Gloria admits to Lopez her fear that she actually does not exist, and Lopez comforts her. When Gloria uses the bathroom, she finds that previously defunct automatic devices now work for her. Nikki and Wrench steal Varga's banking information and she gets him to meet, where she promises to destroy him for Ray's death. Dollard receives a package from Nikki with Varga and Stussy Lots's financial information.
S3E10 · Somebody to Love
Before Gloria can resign, Dollard calls her after finding her number in the file and explains that Varga's infiltration of Stussy Lots is actually a tax fraud scheme. As Varga forces Emmit to sign Stussy Lots over, he gets a call from Nikki setting a meeting spot for him to get his records back, unaware that she has already sent them. Emmit grabs a gun, but Varga easily dispatches him and leaves him on the floor with the stamp stuck to his forehead. Wrench ambushes and massacres Varga's men at the drop point while Varga escapes up an elevator shaft. Emmit goes to Stussy Lots when he wakes up but finds that it has been sold to Goldfarb, who was working with Varga. Nikki confronts him, but they are noticed by a police officer. She and the officer shoot and kill each other, and Emmit flees to his wife's house, reconciling with her. Gloria admits to her son that she cannot explain why Ennis died, but unanswered questions are the nature of the world and people who love each other need to stick together. Five years later, Sy has woken up from his coma paralyzed, while Emmit has pled guilty to tax fraud and is given probation, having possibly kept Varga's money. At a family dinner, he is killed by Wrench. Gloria, now with the DHS, is called to interview Varga as he is caught flying in from Belgium. Varga insists to her that human beings have no value beyond money and that the past can be altered, neither of which Gloria believes. She promises him that he will go to jail, while he is confident that he will be let go. They then sit in silence.
Season 4
S4E1 · Welcome to the Alternate Economy
In 1920 Kansas City, Missouri, the bosses of a Jewish crime organization, the Moskowitz Syndicate, and an Irish gang, the Milligan Concern, trade their youngest sons to keep the peace. However, Milligan's son, Patrick, betrays his adoptive family, allowing the Irish to ambush and wipe out the Syndicate, with Patrick's father forcing him to personally execute Moskowitz's son. In 1934, the Milligan Concern and the newly arrived Sardinian Fadda Family go through the same peace offering, with Patrick Milligan again being exchanged. This time, Patrick betrays his Irish family and they are destroyed in a similar ambush by the Faddas. Patrick is forced to execute his father. In 1949, an African American gang, the Cannon Limited, come to power, and leader Loy Cannon trades sons with the Fadda Family. Loy's youngest son, Satchel, is exchanged for Don Donatello Fadda's youngest son, Zero. Patrick, who is now nicknamed "Rabbi," empathetically promises Loy that he will personally look out for Satchel. One year later, while at a stop sign, Donatello Fadda is accidentally shot in the jugular by children with a BB gun, and is rushed to the city's top private hospital. The hospital director, Dr. Harvard, is prejudiced against Italians and demands that they leave. Donatello's son, Josto, swears revenge. At a lesser-quality public hospital, Josto bonds briefly with Donatello's nurse, Oraetta Mayflower. Later that afternoon, Mayflower kills Donatello with a morphine injection and steals his ring. Meanwhile, bright and rebellious mixed-race teenager Ethelrida Pearl Smutny, whose parents run a funeral home, has a conversation with her father Thurman about their financial problems. For unknown reasons, Thurman has accepted a large loan from Loy which he is unable to repay. Unknown to them, Mayflower is watching them from her apartment across the street, and has taken a peculiar interest in Ethelrida.
S4E2 · The Land of Taking and Killing
Bank robbers Zelmare Roulette (Ethelrida's aunt) and Swanee Capps escape prison and arrive unannounced at the Smutny house. Ethelrida's mother, Dibrell, reluctantly allows her sister and Swanee to stay. Josto, who has now assumed control of the Fadda Family, finds his legitimacy challenged by his younger brother, Gaetano Fadda, who refuses to go back to Sardinia following Donatello's funeral and immediately begins undermining his brother's authority. Further adding to his weak appearance, some of Josto's men botch a drive-by hit on Dr. Harvard, instead killing a nurse and a wealthy socialite. Odis Weff, a corrupt cop working for Josto who has numerous nervous tics, warns him to refrain from bringing any more heat on the Family. Meanwhile, the Cannon Limited decides to take advantage of Donatello's death. Before he died, Donatello was considering handing over a front disguised as a slaughterhouse to Loy. Loy and his consigliere, Doctor Senator, make a move to seize the slaughterhouse, claiming the deal had been settled. However, Gaetano then arrives at the slaughterhouse instead of Josto and tells Senator that if he finds the deal was illegitimate, there will be retaliation. Striking up conversation on their porch, Oraetta is impressed with Ethelrida's intelligence. That night, Oraetta bakes her an apple pie, but laces it with ipecac. She leaves the dessert on the Smutnys' front porch and Thurman brings it inside. A police squad suddenly raids the house, looking for Zelmare and Swanee.
S4E3 · Raddoppiarlo
U.S. Marshal Dick "Deafy" Wickware, who has been trailing Zelmare and Swanee since their escape, arrives in Kansas City and is assigned Odis as his guide. The two lead the raid on the Smutny funeral home. Deafy questions Dibrell on the whereabouts of her sister and Swanee, but Dibrell and Ethelrida both claim they have not seen or heard from them. A search of the house and the morgue in the basement yields no results, and the police leave. Zelmare and Swanee, who hid in one of the morgue's cold lockers, promise to leave, but take Thurman's shotgun with them. Thurman smuggles them out in a casket and drops them off at their destination, not knowing that it is Loy's compound. The duo kill three of Loy's henchmen and steal $20,000. Swanee, who had eaten a piece of Oraetta's poisoned pie, becomes violently ill and vomits on the money, forcing the two to make a hasty getaway. Oraetta is fired for the unusual number of patients who have died under her care, but manages to get a new job at Dr. Harvard's hospital. Noticing Josto in his car outside the hospital, she assumes he is following her for romantic reasons, and she gives him a line of cocaine and a handjob. Gaetano grows impatient with Josto's diplomatic approach to the Cannons and begins rallying some of the Family to his side, including hitman Constant Calamita. He instructs Calamita to carry out a drive-by hit on Loy's eldest son, Lemuel, having Rabbi act as the triggerman. Rabbi, suspecting Josto did not authorize the hit, foils the attempt. Loy, confronted with the news of the robbery and the failed hit, believes Josto is behind both and wants retaliation. Doctor Senator, suspecting something is off, convinces Loy to let him investigate the situation before declaring war.
S4E4 · The Pretend War
While smuggling a large quantity of rifles in a produce truck, Calamita and his driver are stopped by Loy's gang using a flaming roadblock. They kill the driver and brand Calamita's face before stealing the truck. Loy sells the guns to Mort Kellerman and the Fargo Mafia at cost, reserving a favor from them in the event that they are needed during a war with the Faddas. During a sitdown with Fadda consigliere Ebal Violante, Doctor Senator claims the heist was retaliation for the attempted hit on Lemuel. Violante's confusion confirms Senator's suspicions that the attack was a power move from Gaetano and the robbery was just a random crime. Rabbi informs Josto of Gaetano's efforts to undermine him. Enraged, Josto confronts Gaetano in front of his followers, threatening to shoot him in the genitals. Gaetano backs off, but is visibly angered. Oraetta, who has begun an intense sexual relationship with Josto, gets interrupted by Ethelrida, who has arrived at her apartment looking for a part-time housecleaning job. While alone in the apartment, Ethelrida discovers Oraetta's secret closet where she keeps various poisons, mementos from her victims, and newspaper clippings about her killings. Ethelrida steals one of the clippings and Donatello's ring. She leaves in a hurry and forgets her notebook in the closet. Zelmare meets with Thurman, giving him a bag full of her recently stolen money so he can pay his debt to Loy. Thurman, unaware that the money was originally Loy's, arrives at the latter's house, pays his debt, and leaves. Loy is momentarily happy that something went his way, but becomes angry when he notices the vomit smell of the money and realizes what has happened.
S4E5 · The Birthplace of Civilization
Ethelrida writes an anonymous letter to Dr. Harvard detailing her findings about the many deaths of Oraetta's patients. In retaliation for the truck heist, Josto has Odis arrest several Cannon Limited men, including Lemuel. When Odis attempts to arrest Loy, he takes advantage of Odis' OCD and turns the tables on him. Odis instead confiscates the bag of money Thurman gave Loy. Loy confronts Thurman, demanding Zelmare's location and assuming control of the funeral home for use as a front. Simultaneously, Deafy interrogates Ethelrida at her school for the same information. Both Loy and Deafy head to the hotel Zelmare and Swanee are hiding out in. Loy gets there first, but rather than kill the pair, he sneaks them out of the hotel, wanting to make use of their skills. Doctor Senator arrives at the diner he and Violante regularly have meetings at, but is surprised to find Gaetano and Calamita there instead. They attempt to threaten Senator, but he rebukes the pair and leaves. Calamita follows Senator outside the diner and shoots him dead in the street.
S4E6 · Camp Elegance
Loy and his gang ambush Odis in his apartment and force him to flip sides. With his help, Zelmare and Swanee shoot their way into Gaetano's compound, and they subdue him and bring him to Loy, who has him tortured. Dr. Harvard brings Ethelrida's letter to Oraetta's attention. She manages to talk her way out of his suspicions, but he refuses her request to let her see the letter. Violante returns from New York City with Joe Bulo after requesting backup. New York promises to help Josto, but only if he can fix his problem with Cannon Limited within two weeks and makes peace with Gaetano. Violante suggests an exchange with Cannon Limited to get Gaetano back. However, Josto secretly orders his brother-in-law, Antoon Dumini, to kill Satchel, expecting that Loy will in turn kill Gaetano. Rabbi deduces Josto's plan and kills Antoon before he can execute Satchel, and the two go on the run.
S4E7 · Lay Away
Oraetta feeds Dr. Harvard poisoned macaroons. As he writhes in agony, she steals Ethelrida's letter from his desk. The Faddas discover Antoon's body and surmise that Rabbi has betrayed them. Josto dispatches Calamita to track down Rabbi and Satchel. Violante intends to hand over several Fadda businesses in exchange for Gaetano, but Josto sabotages the exchange, lying to Loy that Calamita, enraged at Gaetano's abduction, killed Satchel. He instead offers Violante's promised businesses in exchange for Loy killing Gaetano and Calamita. After mourning overnight and toying with the idea of killing Zero in retaliation, Loy sees the big picture and realizes Josto is setting him up. Instead of killing Gaetano, Loy informs him of his brother's betrayal and sets him free. Loy then sends Omie Sparkman to kill Calamita.
S4E8 · The Nadir
Oraetta receives news that Dr. Harvard has survived his poisoning and is expected to make a full recovery. Hastily packing her bags, she finds Ethelrida's notebook in her apartment. Comparing its handwriting to the letter she pulled from Harvard's desk, she deduces that Ethelrida wrote the letter. Josto arrives at his compound and is horrified to find Gaetano there. Gaetano beats him, but then professes his admiration for Josto's attempt to have him killed and pledges his loyalty to his brother, finally accepting his leadership. Learning his plan has backfired and united the brothers against him, Loy calls in his favor from the Fargo Mafia. Deafy confronts Loy, demanding the whereabouts of Zelmare and Swanee. Loy initially resists out of obligation to his sense of honor, but Deafy mocks his code and ultimately intimidates Loy into revealing that the duo will be taking the 10pm train to Philadelphia. Deafy assembles a squad to arrest the pair. Odis, claiming to want a return to his life as a cop and be a crook no longer, accompanies the raid, but is incapacitated by his OCD when it commences. Zelmare and Swanee make a last stand, killing many cops and civilians alike. Odis finally works up the courage to enter the station, and finds Deafy just as he has cornered the outlaws. Still acting under orders from Loy, he shoots Deafy dead. He then turns his gun on the women, killing Swanee. An enraged Zelmare manages to push past Odis and escape. While visiting their mother's house, Josto and Gaetano are ambushed by Mort Kellerman and his Fargo soldiers. Gaetano manages to singlehandedly push them back, but the brothers are devastated to learn that their mother was killed in the crossfire.
S4E9 · East/West
The episode is presented in black and white and told through the eyes of Omie Sparkman, Rabbi Milligan, and Satchel Cannon. Omie is traveling with Aldo, a kidnapped Fadda henchman who has tipped him off that Calamita is pursuing Rabbi and Satchel to Liberal, Kansas. At a gas station outside the city, Omie tells the owner he is expecting someone, and offers to finish painting the building if he can stay and wait. When Calamita shows up, Aldo tries to flee and Omie kills him, alerting Calamita. One day prior, Rabbi and Satchel arrive at an unusual boarding house in Liberal. Satchel finds a seemingly abandoned terrier named Rabbit in their room and adopts it, while Rabbi unsuccessfully scrounges for cash. After a day and a half, Rabbi decides they need to leave, declining Satchel's request that they bring Rabbit along. Upset, Satchel tells Rabbi it is his birthday and he was hoping to get a gift. Feeling guilty, Rabbi leaves to look for a candy bar for Satchel. As a storm builds, Rabbi travels to the gas station. There, he discovers the owner has been killed and finds that Calamita has wounded and cornered Omie. A gunfight ensues, which is interrupted when a sudden tornado sucks up the station, killing Rabbi, Calamita, and Omie. The next morning, Satchel wakes up to discover that Rabbi has not returned. Armed with Rabbi's gun, he leaves the boarding house with Rabbit and begins walking down the road.
S4E10 · Happy
The Cannon Limited and the Fadda Family commit to war. Several months pass, and by 1951 the violence has gotten out of control. Trying to reclaim his life, Odis arrests Josto, Gaetano, and several others. Loy, who is losing the war, seeks aid from his brother-in-law, the rural mobster Happy. But Happy and Leon quickly betray Loy, making a deal with Josto to kill Loy and run the Cannon Limited under the Faddas. Odis arrives at his apartment to find it ransacked. He tries to flee, but Josto and Gaetano corner him in his car. Unable to defend himself, he accepts his fate and Gaetano shoots him dead. As Gaetano runs away from Odis' car, he trips and falls, accidentally discharging his gun and killing himself. Josto flees the scene. Oraetta, intending to kill Ethelrida and get back Donatello's ring, sneaks into her bedroom, but the ghost of Theodore Roach appears and scares her off. She returns home to find the police waiting to arrest her based on Dr. Harvard's testimony. Ethelrida arranges a meeting with Loy to make a deal for her family's business. She presents him with Donatello's ring and evidence that he was murdered by Oraetta, claiming it will help him win his war with the Faddas.
S4E11 · Storia Americana
Following his meeting with Ethelrida, Loy gives the Smutnys their funeral home back. Josto, drunk after Gaetano's death, vengefully murders his fiancée's father, Milvin Gillis, and a recovered Dr. Harvard. Loy meets with Violante and returns both the elder Fadda's ring and Zero. The two make a deal to end the war. Loy then has Happy and Leon killed for their betrayals. A hungover Josto is confronted in a kangaroo court by Violante and the rest of the Fadda operation, who assert that Josto has acted outside the interests of the family. Oraetta, who has been bailed out of jail by Violante, claims Josto indirectly ordered her to murder Donatello, and testifies about her and Josto's relationship after. Taking into account how Oraetta had Donatello's ring as well as Gaetano's unexplained death, Violante concludes Josto conspired with Oraetta to kill his father and brother for more power, and declares that the Faddas' days as a family business are over. With New York's blessing, Violante takes control of the entire operation, which he intends to modernize. Joe Bulo drives Josto and Oraetta to a field and executes them both. Loy returns home with his family and is overjoyed to discover Satchel has made his way back. With the war ended, Loy is shocked to discover that Violante has made "small adjustments" to their peace deal; half of the Cannon Limited's business will be under Italian control. Defeated, Loy returns home, but finds bliss with his family reunited. Lingering outside the front door as he joyfully watches them through a window, he is suddenly stabbed by a vengeful Zelmare. Satchel witnesses the attack and goes to his father's side as he dies. The episode ends with Ethelrida reciting her American history report to her proud parents. During the credits, it is revealed that Satchel grows up to become Mike Milligan, a player in Violante's new, more corporate Kansas City Mafia.
Season 5
S5E1 · The Tragedy of the Commons
In 2019, Scandia housewife Dorothy "Dot" Lyon is arrested by deputy Indira Olmstead when she mistakenly tasers an officer during a riot at her daughter Scotty's school board meeting. Bailed out by her husband Wayne, she is kidnapped by criminals Ole Munch and Donald Ireland after a long struggle that ends with all three being injured. Wayne's wealthy mother Lorraine, who runs a debt collection agency, agrees to pay a potential ransom. While driving Dot into North Dakota, Munch and Ireland are pulled over by state troopers. Dot flees and Munch kills a trooper and shoots his partner, Officer Witt Farr, who hides in the same gas station as Dot. She rigs the store with traps, killing Ireland and injuring Munch, who escapes while she treats Witt's wound. She flees before Witt can learn her name and walks home, where she claims to a confounded Wayne that she was not kidnapped, despite evidence to the contrary.
S5E2 · Trials and Tribulations
Roy Tillman, the constitutional sheriff of Stark County explains his biblically-based view of the world to a young man before he has one of his deputies beat him up for abusing his wife "unnecessarily". Roy meets with Munch, who he hired to kidnap Dot, and explains that Dot is his wife Nadine, who disappeared eleven years ago. When Munch demands triple his payment for not being made aware of her skills, Roy's son (and deputy) Gator Tillman attempts to execute him, but Munch instead kills two of Roy's men and escapes. FBI agents Joaquin and Meyer press Roy to enforce federal laws locally despite his distaste of them. Gator visits a recovering Witt to probe for information on Dot, running into Indira seeking the same information. Gator deletes a picture of Dot from Indira's phone to prevent Witt from identifying her. Believing Dot faked the kidnapping to extort her, Lorraine tries to pay her to leave Wayne and threatens legal action when she refuses. With Scotty's help, Dot booby-traps the entire house to deter intruders, explaining it to Wayne as an affordable "security system". When Gator and a deputy stop at the same gas station that was previously shot up, Munch kills the deputy and pins a note written in blood to the man's chest with a hunting knife demanding payment.
S5E3 · The Paradox of Intermediate Transactions
Roy instructs Gator to cover up the deputy's death as an accident and to look for clues into Munch's whereabouts. Dot makes plans for Halloween, switching around the street signs in the neighborhood and designing "zombie killer" costumes for her and Scotty with homemade weapons and bulletproof vests. An elderly woman named Irma discovers Munch living in her house but appears indifferent and allows him to stay. A flashback to Wales 500 years ago depicts a funeral where a peasant named Bryn Glas — the immortal Munch — is paid to consume a meal representing the dead man's sins. Dot and Wayne attempt to buy guns, but their plans are foiled by a mandatory one week waiting period. Witt confronts Gator at the police station after seeing Gator steal evidence related to Ireland. Roy instructs Gator to kidnap Dot on Halloween night when lots of people are milling around wearing masks. Munch performs a ritual in a shed at Roy's farm, covering himself in goat's blood and chanting in Latin. After trick or treating Dot notices a suspicious van outside her house, the occupants wearing masks. Munch, dripping blood, enters Roy's house where Roy's current wife and two young daughters are sleeping.
S5E4 · Insolubilia
Gator and his crew invade the Lyon house wearing Halloween masks but Dot recognizes Gator. She manages to fend off the assailants, but in the process, Wayne is nearly fatally electrocuted from one of her traps, which sets the room on fire. Her family and Gator's crew manage to escape before the fire department arrives. Roy approaches his house and discovers the deputy guarding it has been killed. He follows Munch's footprints to his daughters' bedroom, finding the children untouched, but an arcane symbol drawn on the wall in blood. With Wayne recovering in the hospital, Witt and Indira show up to question Dot, but are rebuffed by Lorraine's attorney Danish Graves. FBI agents Joaquin and Meyer suspect Roy of providing weapons to a local right-wing militia led by his father-in-law, Odin Little, but their boss, fearing retaliation from the militiamen, refuses to support an investigation. Roy visits the house of the couple he had earlier counseled about domestic violence. Seeing more bruises on the wife, Roy goads the husband into pulling a gun, only to fire his own gun first and kill him. Roy tells Gator to frame the dead husband for Munch's crimes at the gas station to stop the police investigation.
S5E5 · The Tiger
Dot and Scotty temporarily stay at Lorraine's fortified house. Lorraine and Danish try to have Dot institutionalized, but at the hospital, she attacks the guards and escapes. Lorraine meets with banker Vivian Dugger and pressures him to sell his failing bank to her. Roy visits Lorraine looking for Dot, but Lorraine rebuffs him and offers to help fund his re-election campaign to get rid of him. Indira arrives at Lorraine's compound to inform her that Dot has escaped, but Roy overhears and orders his henchmen to kidnap Wayne. Dot narrowly evades Roy's men at the hospital and overhears that they are there for Wayne. She hides a recovering Wayne in the bathroom of his ward while duping the men into kidnapping a different patient. Joaquin and Meyer arrive at the hospital to question Dot. She stonewalls them before slipping away and sneaking back to Lorraine's compound to retrieve Scotty and take her to Indira's house. Dot admits to Indira that her ex-husband is after her, and asks Indira to take care of Scotty for a few days while she attends to other business.
S5E6 · The Tender Trap
Roy confronts Dugger outside a strip club, coercing him into not selling his bank to Lorraine. Back at the Tillman ranch, Gator's men torture the cancer patient they had mistakenly kidnapped, but Roy realizes they got the wrong man and kills him. The FBI agents interview Wayne at the hospital but get nowhere. They later meet with Indira and tell her their plan to use Dot to uncover Roy's illegal activities. While Roy pays off Munch, Gator plants a tracking device on Munch's car without his father's knowledge. When Indira finds her feckless husband Lars has left Scotty by herself, she takes her back to Lorraine's house and gives the latter a file detailing Dorothy's abuse by Roy. Lorraine offers Indira a job running her security team along with a remedy to her mounting debt. Lorraine reports Dugger's embezzlement of his bank's funds to the government, effectively ruining him. She then examines the file Indira had given her and discovers how severely Dot had been abused by Roy.
S5E7 · Linda
Irma's son, Kevin, discovers Munch at her house and demands he pay rent; Munch pays him in cash, only to murder him moments later after witnessing him mistreating his mother. Gator follows the tracker on Munch's car to Irma's house and snipes at his silhouette through a window, unaware it is the corpse of Kevin. He discovers Munch's payment money in his car and steals it; Irma confronts him, but he pushes her, causing her to fall and fatally hit her head. Gator escapes before Munch discovers the body. Dot, meanwhile, drives a long distance and stops at a roadside diner. She then retrieves a buried postcard for a "Camp Utopia", which turns out to be a women's shelter run by Roy's first wife and Gator's mother, Linda. Dot blames Linda for luring her into Roy's clutches so she could escape him, but asks her to testify on behalf of Roy's crimes. Linda agrees, but first has Dot tell her personal story to the camp using puppets, explaining how she was taken in by the Tillman family at age 15 and was abused by Roy. Dot eventually wakes up at the diner, realizing that the whole Camp Utopia experience was a dream. She walks out of the door, but is knocked unconscious when a careening semi-trailer smashes into the parking lot; she awakens in the hospital only to find Roy at her bedside.
S5E8 · Blanket
Danish selects three North Dakota men from the Lyon book of debtors, and has them all change their names to "Roy Tillman". Indira discovers her husband in bed with another woman and kicks him out. At the hospital, Witt sees Roy forcing Dot to come with him, but is outnumbered by Roy's men and is unable to help her. Roy takes Dot back to his ranch and restrains her with chains in a barn. He then goes to his debate for reelection as sheriff, only to find the three other Roy Tillmans onstage to sabotage his speech. Roy storms out of the debate, striking the female moderator in the face on the way out. Gator checks in on Dot, who claims Linda is alive, but an angered Gator drives away, unaware Munch is hiding in his car. Witt sees Danish at a gas station and tells him about Dot's captivity. Roy returns from the debate embarrassed and enraged; his wife Karen convinces him to take his anger out on Dot rather than on her. Dot, however, fights back and attempts to kill Roy, but their fight is interrupted upon Danish's arrival at the compound. Danish offers to fix Roy's election in exchange for Dot's return, but Roy kills him. Dot witnesses Roy's men burying Danish's body in a pit underneath a windmill that echos a location in her dream, and realizes that Roy had killed Linda and buried her in the same pit.
S5E9 · The Useless Hand
Munch takes a kidnapped Gator to a remote ice fishing cabin and cuts out his eyes as punishment for killing his innocent landlady. Indira, now Lorraine's head of security, traces Danish's cellphone to the Tillman ranch. Lorraine calls in a favor from the President to deploy an armored FBI and state police force to the compound; Roy, meanwhile, summons his father-in-law's militia to defend the ranch. Dot manages to escape through the floor of the barn amidst the chaos and sneaks into the farmhouse, managing to call Wayne before being confronted by Karen Tillman. Dot overpowers Karen and takes her phone and gun. While outside searching for Dot, Roy is approached by Munch, who accuses him of betraying him and leaves the disfigured Gator with him. Deeming Gator to be "useless" now, Roy abandons him. Dot hides in the pit where Danish's body was dumped, but is discovered by three of Roy's men, only for Munch to kill them. He sets Dot free and gives her a gun before disappearing.
S5E10 · Bisquik
Witt joins an FBI assault team covertly breaching the ranch's perimeter to rescue Dot. Roy gets into a fight with his father-in-law over Dot's escape and murders him; Karen witnesses this and flees. Roy chases her, only to be confronted by Dot, who shoots him in the abdomen. Before she can shoot again, the FBI team arrives to retrieve her and arrest Karen while a wounded Roy flees. Witt pursues him into the ranch's dugout, but Roy overpowers and fatally stabs him. Roy attempts to escape via a tunnel in the dugout, but is arrested by the FBI, who were alerted to his location by Gator. Dot and Gator reconcile before she returns home and reunites with her family. A year later, Lorraine visits Roy in prison and tells him she is helping the other prisoners repay their debts in return for tormenting Roy in prison. Munch makes a surprise visit to the Lyon home seeking retribution against Dot for maiming him during their first encounter, but Dot challenges his conception of debt, and offers him a meal if he will help cook. She teaches him to make biscuits, and he joins the family for dinner. He tells the family of the cursed existence he has lived ever since consuming another man's sins centuries ago. Dot assures him he can be free by eating a meal made with love and given freely, offering him a biscuit. After a moment of hesitation, Munch eats it and smiles cathartically.
