Fantastic Mr. Fox

While raiding Berk's Squab Farm, Mr. Fox and his wife, Felicity, are caught in a trap. Felicity reveals her pregnancy to her husband and makes him promise to find a safer job. Twelve fox-years later, the Foxes and their son, Ash, are living in a hole. Ignoring his lawyer Clive Badger's warnings, Mr. Fox moves them into a better home inside a tree, perilously close to the operations of three notorious farmers: Walt Boggis, Nate Bunce, and Frank Bean.
Soon after the Foxes move in, Felicity's nephew Kristofferson Silverfox comes to live with them due to his father receiving long-term treatment for double pneumonia. Longing for his days as a thief, Mr. Fox and his opossum friend Kylie steal poultry and cider from Boggis, Bunce, and Bean's farms. Angered by the raids, the farmers shoot off Mr. Fox's tail and demolish his home, forcing the Foxes underground. The group encounters Badger and many other animals whose homes the three farmers have destroyed. As the homeless animals begin fearing starvation and blaming the Foxes, Mr. Fox leads them on a digging expedition to tunnel to the three farms, stealing their prized goods.
Discovering that Mr. Fox has stolen all their goods, the farmers and the fire chief flood the animals' tunnel network with Bean's cider, washing them out into the sewers. Ash and Kristofferson slip away from the celebration and return to Bean's farm, intending to reclaim the missing tail, but Bean's wife discovers their presence and captures Kristofferson. Realizing that the farmers plan to use Kristofferson to lure him into an ambush, Mr. Fox heads to the surface to surrender but returns when Rat, Bean's violent security guard, confronts the animals and attacks Ash and Felicity. A fight between Mr. Fox and Rat results in the latter being pushed into a generator, electrocuting him. Before dying, Rat reveals that Kristofferson is being held in an attic in Bean Annex, prompting Mr. Fox to organize a rescue mission.
He asks the farmers for a meeting in Paddington near the sewer hub, offering to surrender himself on the condition that the farmers free Kristofferson and spare the other animals. The farmers prepare an ambush, but the animals, anticipating it, launch a counterattack that allows Mr. Fox, Ash, and Kylie to enter Bean Annex undetected. Ash frees Kristofferson and impresses his father and the group by braving enemy fire to release a rabid beagle to keep the farmers at bay.
As the farmers wait for the animals to come out of the manhole, the animals settle into their new homes in the sewers. Soon afterward, Fox raids a supermarket owned by the farmers, where Felicity reveals her new pregnancy. The animals dance in the aisles, celebrating their abundant new food source.

Isle of Dogs

A thousand years ago, dogs were free to roam as they pleased. However, the cat-supremacist Kobayashi Dynasty declared war on dogs, seeking to eradicate them. A child warrior sympathetic towards the threatened dogs decapitated the head of the Kobayashi Clan, ending the war, and was immortalized as the Boy Samurai of Legend.
In 2038, an outbreak of canine flu spreads throughout the Japanese city of Megasaki. The city's authoritarian mayor, Kenji Kobayashi, ratifies an official decree banishing all dogs to Trash Island, despite the insistence of Professor Watanabe, the mayor's political opponent, that he is close to creating a cure. The first deported canine is a white and black-spotted male dog named Spots Kobayashi, who served as the bodyguard of 12-year-old orphan Atari Kobayashi, the mayor's distant nephew and ward.
Six months later, Atari hijacks a plane and flies it to Trash Island, now nicknamed "the Isle of Dogs", to search for Spots. After crash-landing, Atari is rescued by a dog pack ostensibly led by an all-black canine named Chief, a lifelong stray, along with Rex, Boss, Duke, and King. With their help, Atari finds a locked cage that apparently contains Spots' skeleton, but they realize it is not him. They then fend off a rescue team sent by Mayor Kobayashi to retrieve Atari. Chief initially declines to continue helping Atari find Spots, but is convinced by Nutmeg, a female ex-show dog whom Chief is smitten with. The pack seeks advice from sage-like dogs Jupiter and Oracle, who surmise that Spots might be held captive by an isolated tribe of dogs rumored to be cannibals.
Meanwhile, Watanabe finally develops a successful serum and shows the results to Kobayashi, who merely dismisses him. By order of the mayor's hatchet man Major Domo, the professor is placed under house arrest and assassinated with poisoned sushi. Tracy Walker, an American exchange student, member of a pro-dog activist group and Nutmeg's owner, suspects a conspiracy and begins to investigate, in the process developing feelings for Atari. Kobayashi and his political party are revealed to be responsible for the dog flu outbreak and aim to succeed at exterminating dogs where Kobayashi's ancestors failed.
During their journey to the dog tribe, Chief and Atari are separated from the others. Atari gives Chief a bath, revealing his white and black-spotted coat and thus his striking resemblance to Spots. The two bond and rejoin the rest of the pack. Another rescue team attacks them, but they are saved by Spots and the dog tribe. Spots confirms that he is Chief's older brother and that he was rescued by the tribe, who were test subjects from an abandoned secret lab. Spots became their leader and mated with a female tribe member named Peppermint, who is pregnant with their first litter. Because of these new responsibilities, Spots requests Atari replace him as his bodyguard with Chief; initially hesitant, both he and Atari accept. Word reaches the dog tribe that Kobayashi plans to euthanize all dogs with poison gas; Atari and the dogs build boats to return to Megasaki. Meanwhile, Tracy confronts Watanabe's colleague Yoko Ono, who confirms Tracy's conspiracy theories and gives her the last vial of serum.
At his re-election ceremony, Kobayashi prepares to give the extermination order when Tracy and the activist group interrupt, presenting evidence of his corruption. Kobayashi proceeds to deport Tracy, but before he can do so, Atari and the dogs arrive. They confirm that the serum works by testing it on Chief, curing him. Atari addresses the crowd and recites a haiku he wrote and dedicated to Kobayashi, rekindling the sympathy that once existed between dogs and humans. Initially enraged by his nephew's rebellion, Mayor Kobayashi suffers an epiphany at his words (instantly reminded of the legend of the Boy Samurai) before shamefully confessing all his corruption and officially repeals the dog banishment decree. Enraged, Major Domo tries to initiate the extermination himself, but his plans are thwarted by the dogs and the activist group. In the chaos, Atari and Spots are wounded and taken to a hospital, where a repentant Kobayashi donates one of his kidneys to save his nephew. Atari becomes the new mayor of Megasaki after Kobayashi's crimes render him ineligible to hold office.
One month later, Atari has had all dogs reintegrated into society and cured of the dog flu; while Kobayashi, Major Domo, and their co-conspirators are all sent to jail with Major Domo soon to get a death sentence. Chief's pack dogs are all back with their owners: Boss returns to being the mascot of the Dragons' baseball team (inferred that the coach owns him), King has returned to being a dog food commercial star and lives with a couple with their 3 children and has a big supply of dog food and puppy snaps, Duke lives with a large family who is seen watching one of King's commercials on TV, and Rex is owned by an elderly female librarian and is shown by her in the library with his own thick mat. Atari and Tracy become a couple, while Chief and Nutmeg become their bodyguard dogs. Meanwhile, Spots, having survived his injuries, raises his litter with Peppermint under the care of a Shinto priest.

Moonrise Kingdom

On the New England island of New Penzance, 12-year-old orphan Sam Shakusky attends Camp Ivanhoe, a Khaki Scout summer camp led by Scout Master Randy Ward. Suzy Bishop, also 12, lives on the island with her parents Walt and Laura, both lawyers, and her three younger brothers in a house called Summer's End.
Sam and Suzy, both introverted, intelligent, and mature for their age, meet in the summer of 1964 during a church performance of Noye's Fludde and become pen pals. The relationship becomes romantic over the course of their correspondence, and they make a secret pact to reunite and run away together. In September 1965, they execute their plan. Sam escapes from Camp Ivanhoe while Suzy runs away from Summer's End. The pair rendezvous, hike, camp, and fish in the wilderness with the goal of reaching a specific location.
Meanwhile, the Khaki Scouts have become aware of Sam's absence, finding a letter he left behind stating he has resigned. Scout Master Ward tells the Khaki Scouts to use their skills to set up a search party and find Sam. Island Police Captain Duffy Sharp and Ward contact Sam's guardians the Billingsleys, learning they are actually his foster parents and Sam is an orphan with a history of behavioral issues at home.
Eventually, a group of Khaki Scouts confronts Sam and Suzy and tries to capture them. During the resulting altercation, Suzy injures the Scouts' de facto leader Redford with a pair of lefty scissors, and a stray arrow fired by one of the Scouts kills Camp Ivanhoe's dog Snoopy. The Scouts flee, and Sam and Suzy hike to Mile 3.25 Tidal Inlet which they name "Moonrise Kingdom." They set up camp and as the romantic tension between them grows, they dance on the beach and share each other's first kiss.
Suzy's parents, Ward, the Scouts, and Sharp finally find Sam and Suzy in their tent the next morning. Suzy's parents take her home. Ward gives Sam a letter from the Billingsleys stating that they no longer wish to house Sam. He stays with Sharp while they await the arrival of a Social Services worker, who will likely place Sam in an orphanage and possibly treat him with electroshock therapy.
While in their treehouse, the Camp Ivanhoe Scouts have a change of heart and decide to help Suzy and Sam. They help Suzy and Sam sneak out and then together paddle to neighboring St. Jack Wood Island to seek out the help of Ben, an older cousin of the scout Skotak. Ben works at Fort Lebanon, a larger Khaki Scout summer camp on St. Jack Wood Island run by Ward's superior, Commander Pierce. Ben decides to try to take Sam and Suzy to a crabbing boat anchored off the island so that Sam can work as a crewman and avoid Social Services. He performs a wedding ceremony, which he claims is not "legally" binding, before they leave. Sam, Suzy, and Ben set off for the crabbing boat in a sailboat, but quickly return so that Sam can retrieve Suzy's binoculars. As Sam returns to the camp chapel to look for the binoculars, he is confronted by Redford, who alerts the camp to Sam and Suzy's presence. Suzy's parents, Captain Sharp, Social Services, and the Scouts of Fort Lebanon, under the command of Ward, pursue them.
A violent hurricane and flash flood strike, and Sharp apprehends Sam and Suzy on the steeple of the church in which they first met. Lightning destroys the steeple, but Sharp saves them. During the storm, he decides to become Sam's legal guardian. The hurricane erases Mile 3.25 Tidal Inlet from the map. At Summer's End, Sam is upstairs painting a landscape of Moonrise Kingdom. Suzy and her brothers are called to dinner, while Sam slips out of the window to join Sharp in his patrol car, telling Suzy he will see her the following day.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

In a cemetery in the former nation of Zubrowka, a young woman visits the shrine of a renowned writer, known simply as "Author", carrying a copy of his bestselling novel The Grand Budapest Hotel. The book, written in 1985, recounts the author's 1968 visit to the once lavish, then drab Grand Budapest Hotel during a bout of writer's block. There he meets its proprietor, Zero Moustafa, who divulges his rags to riches story over dinner.
In 1932, Zero flees his war-ravaged country to work as a lobby boy for Monsieur Gustave H., the philandering concierge at the Grand Budapest Hotel. Gustave seduces the hotel's old, wealthy residents, including dowager Madame D., with whom he has had a nearly two-decade affair. Shortly after her last visit, Gustave learns from Zero that Madame D. has mysteriously died. He and Zero visit Schloss Lutz, her estate, to pay their respects; they encounter her surviving relatives at the reading of her will by her attorney, Deputy Vilmos Kovacs. Kovacs announces that she has bequeathed a famous Renaissance painting, Boy with Apple, to Gustave. Madame's son, Dmitri, is outraged and demands Gustave's arrest. Gustave and Zero abscond with the painting.
Madame D.'s butler, Serge, makes a deposition implicating Gustave in her death. He goes into hiding and Gustave is arrested on suspicion of murder. Gustave befriends a gang during his imprisonment, and the men plot their escape. He has Zero place digging tools inside pastries made by Mendl's apprentice baker, Zero's girlfriend, Agatha. Gustave and the others dig their way out and disperse. Dmitri deploys his hitman, J. G. Jopling, to kill Kovacs and Serge's sister, who conceals her brother's whereabouts.
When Zero and Gustave are reunited, they set out to prove Gustave's innocence with the assistance of a fraternity of concierges known as the Society of the Crossed Keys. They locate Serge, and a meeting is orchestrated for the three. Zero and Gustave learn Serge was pressured to frame Gustave by Dmitri to cover up evidence incriminating Dmitri as the true perpetrator of Madame D.'s murder. Serge tells them that Madame D. had a missing second will which would only become effective if she was murdered. Jopling arrives and kills Serge, leaving Gustave and Zero without a witness. After a chase, Gustave dangles off a cliff at Jopling's mercy. Zero rescues Gustave by pushing Jopling off the cliff, and the two men flee, closely trailed by Zubrowkan police.
Gustave, Zero, and Agatha arrive at the Grand Budapest to find it converted into a military headquarters. Agatha sneaks in to retrieve Boy with Apple; as she is leaving, Dmitri enters the hotel and spots her with the painting. Gustave and Zero rush to save Agatha from Dmitri. He opens fire on them, initiating a melee with Zubrowkan troops. Agatha's attempt to escape leaves her and Zero hanging from a balcony before falling, safely, into a van full of pastries.
Madame's second will, which makes Gustave the beneficiary of her fortune, is found attached to the back of Boy with Apple. Gustave is exonerated in court, after which Dmitri disappears. Zero takes over as concierge and marries Agatha in a ceremony officiated by Gustave. While traveling by train, the three encounter thuggish soldiers who try to arrest Zero, but Gustave attempts to fend them off and they shoot him dead. Zero inherits Gustave's fortune and retains the hotel in memory of Agatha, who died from Prussian grippe with their infant son.
