Complete listed story — includes the ending
In a world where toys are sentient but pretend to be lifeless around humans, a group of toys, led by Sheriff Woody, are preparing to move to a new house with their young owner, Andy Davis, and his family. During the party for Andy's sixth birthday, the toys become concerned that Andy might receive a new toy that will replace them. Andy receives a Buzz Lightyear action figure, who believes that he is an actual Space Ranger and does not know that he is a toy. Buzz impresses the others with his electronic features and becomes Andy's new favorite toy, much to Woody's jealousy.
Two days before the move, Andy's family plans to have dinner at Pizza Planet, and Andy is allowed to bring one toy along. To ensure Andy brings him instead of Buzz, Woody tries to trap Buzz behind Andy's desk but accidentally knocks him out the window instead. Believing Woody pushed Buzz on purpose, the other toys rebel against Woody until Andy takes him into the car, with Buzz following. When the car stops at a gas station, Buzz furiously confronts Woody. The two fight, fall out of the car, and are left behind, but then manage to hitch a ride on a Pizza Planet delivery truck. At Pizza Planet, Buzz mistakes a claw machine for a rocket and climbs in, pursued by Woody. Sid Phillips, Andy's sadistic next-door neighbor, grabs Woody and Buzz with the claw and takes them to his house, where they encounter his mutant toys, made from parts of toys Sid has destroyed.
After evading Sid's dog Scud, Buzz sees a television commercial promoting Buzz Lightyear toys and suffers an existential crisis, finally realizing that he is a toy. He attempts to fly, but falls and breaks his arm off. After Sid's toys repair Buzz, Sid tapes him to a firework rocket, planning to blow him up the following day. Overnight, Woody helps Buzz realize that his purpose is to make Andy happy, reinvigorating him. The next morning, as Sid prepares to launch Buzz's rocket, Woody rallies the mutant toys to help him, and together, they come to life and frighten Sid, telling him to play nice with his toys from now on.
After Sid flees, Woody and Buzz pursue the Davises' moving truck, but Scud, who had been locked out of the house from the mutant toys' efforts, attacks Woody. Buzz jumps off the truck and fights Scud off, while Woody climbs up and pushes RC out to rescue Buzz. The other toys think Woody is harming RC and promptly throw him out of the truck. Woody and Buzz race after the truck on RC, but his batteries run out. Woody ignites the rocket strapped to Buzz, and Buzz opens his wings to sever the tape just before the rocket explodes. Woody and Buzz glide through the sunroof of the Davises' car, landing safely inside. On Christmas in the new house, the toys happily listen to Andy opening his presents, no longer concerned over new toys replacing them. When Andy receives a puppy however, Woody and Buzz nervously smile at each other.
Toy Story 2
Woody and Buzz Lightyear, having become best friends, are now the co-leaders of Andy's toys. Andy plans to take Woody to Cowboy Camp, but accidentally rips his arm during a brief playtime. Andy's mother places Woody on a shelf, causing Woody to begin fearing that Andy will soon discard him. Woody finds Wheezy, a penguin toy with a broken squeaker, who has also been shelved. After saving Wheezy from being sold at a yard sale, Woody is found and stolen by a greedy toy collector. Buzz fails to foil the theft, but finds clues identifying the thief as Al McWhiggin, the owner of the "Al's Toy Barn" store.
At Al's apartment, Woody discovers that he was designed as the main protagonist of Woody's Roundup, a popular 1950s children's Western series, where he meets the toy versions of his character co-stars: Jessie the Cowgirl, Bullseye the Horse, and Stinky Pete the Prospector. While delighted to meet them, Stinky Pete informs Woody that Al plans to sell the entire Woody's Roundup collection to a toy museum in Tokyo. Woody desperately wants to return home to Andy, dismaying the group because the museum will not accept the collection without him, which will lead them back into storage. After Woody's arm is repaired the next day, he learns that Jessie was once loved by her owner Emily, until she outgrew and donated her away. Convinced that Andy might do the same to him, Woody decides to go to the museum.
Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, Rex, and Hamm venture out to Al's Toy Barn to rescue Woody. Separated from the gang, Buzz encounters "Ultra Buzz Lightyear", a Buzz variant toy with a utility belt who assumes he is a real space ranger. Ultra Buzz captures and imprisons Andy's Buzz. Ultra Buzz meets the gang, and accompanies them to Al's apartment, assuming they are on a mission to defeat his arch-nemesis, Emperor Zurg. Andy's Buzz escapes and follows them, inadvertently releasing a toy Zurg who follows Buzz to destroy him. Both Buzzes and the rest of the search party arrive at the apartment, meeting Woody and the Roundup toys.
Experiencing a conflict of choices, Woody refuses to go home to stay with the Roundup toys. Shortly after the search party leaves, Woody has a change of heart, inviting Jessie, Bullseye and Stinky Pete to join him and become Andy's toys. While a hesitant Jessie and an enthusiastic Bullseye accept Woody's offer, Pete refuses and blocks them from leaving, as he is adamant about going to the museum. Al returns to the apartment and takes the Woody's Roundup collection to the airport. On the elevator ride down, Zurg appears and fights the toys until he is knocked off the elevator by Rex. They learn that Zurg is Buzz's father, and Ultra Buzz stays behind to reconcile with Zurg. Andy's Buzz and the other toys pursue Al to the airport by driving a Pizza Planet truck, accompanied by three toy aliens from the restaurant.
Buzz and the rest of Andy's toys pursue the baggage through the airport's baggage handling system to recover Woody, Jessie and Bullseye. Stinky Pete knocks Buzz and retaliates against Woody by ripping his arm again. Buzz and the others work together to subdue Pete with camera flashes, placing him in the backpack of a young girl, who takes him away with her. Bullseye is saved, but Jessie is loaded onto a baggage tractor and taken to the plane. Woody, Buzz, and Bullseye race to rescue her before the plane takes off. The toys return to Andy's house. Andy returns from Cowboy Camp that night, and finds all of the toys on his bed, ready to be played with. The next morning, Woody's arm and Wheezy's broken squeaker are repaired, and Jessie and Bullseye find the comfort of their new home. Al mourns the loss of the lucrative deal with the toy museum on a television advertisement, and leaves in despair, much to the toys' amusement. As the toys celebrate, Woody tells Buzz that he no longer fears Andy losing interest in him, promising to keep each other company for "infinity and beyond".
Toy Story 3
Andy Davis is 17 years old and preparing to leave for college. He decides to take Woody with him and puts Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the other toys in a bag to be stored in the attic. Andy's mother mistakenly takes the bag to the curb for garbage pickup. The toys escape and, believing Andy intended to throw them away, join Andy's sister Molly's Barbie in a donation box bound for Sunnyside Daycare. Woody pursues the others and fails to convince them of the truth.
Andy's toys are welcomed by the other toys at Sunnyside, and are given a tour of the seemingly perfect play-setting by Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear ("Lotso"), Big Baby, and Ken. Barbie falls in love with the latter. All the toys choose to stay, except Woody, who attempts to return home. A Sunnyside child named Bonnie finds Woody and takes him to her house, playing with him and her other toys.
After Andy's toys endure a rough playtime with the toddlers, Buzz asks Lotso to have himself and his friends moved to the older children's room, but is instead captured. Lotso is revealed to be running a police state among the daycare's toys; he tells Buzz he sends all newly arrived toys to the toddler room for his gang's safety, regardless of whether the new toys are age-appropriate or get broken. Seeing promise in Buzz, Lotso has him switched to demo mode, brainwashing him into believing Lotso is his commander. Meanwhile, Mrs. Potato Head, who lost an eye in Andy's room, sees an upset Andy searching for his toys. Andy's toys realize their mistake and attempt to leave, but are captured and imprisoned by Buzz on Lotso's orders.
At Bonnie's house, Woody meets a toy clown named Chuckles, and learns that Chuckles, Lotso, and Big Baby were once owned by a girl named Daisy. When the three toys were accidentally lost during a road trip, they traveled back to Daisy's house on foot, only to find that Daisy's parents had replaced Lotso. After convincing Big Baby that Daisy had replaced them and intimidating Chuckles to silence the truth, Lotso led the toys to Sunnyside, taking it over as a dictator.
Woody returns to Sunnyside and reunites with his friends. That night, the toys initiate an escape plan, accidentally resetting Buzz to Spanish mode in the process. "Spanish Buzz" immediately befriends Woody and begins a relationship with Jessie. The toys escape the building, getting as far as Sunnyside's dumpster, but Lotso and his gang thwart them. As a trash truck approaches, Woody reveals Lotso's deception to Big Baby, who promptly throws Lotso into the dumpster. Andy's toys attempt to escape, but Lotso pulls Woody in with him. Andy's other toys jump in to help, and fall into the truck, where a junked television hits Buzz and restores him to his normal persona.
The toys are brought to a local trash center, and most of them are dumped on a conveyor belt leading to an incinerator. Woody and Buzz help Lotso avoid a shredder, and later to reach an emergency stop button, but once he is safe, Lotso abandons them. Just as the toys are about to be burned, the Aliens rescue them with an industrial crane. A garbage truck driver later finds Lotso and straps him to his truck's radiator grille.
Woody and his friends ride another garbage truck back to Andy's house. Andy discovers a note from Woody and, assuming it is from his mother, donates the toys to Bonnie, who lives nearby. Andy introduces the toys individually to Bonnie, and is surprised to find Woody at the bottom of the donation box. After Bonnie recognizes Woody, an initially hesitant Andy passes him on to her. Andy plays with Bonnie before leaving; Woody bids him a quiet farewell, and the toys begin their new life with Bonnie.
Later, Woody and the other toys learn that Barbie, Ken, and Big Baby have improved the lives of the toys at Sunnyside.
Toy Story 4
Nine years ago, Woody and Bo Peep rescue Andy's remote control car, RC, from being washed away in a storm, before Bo and her lamp are donated to a new owner. Woody attempts to rescue her, but she insists it is okay as it is "time for the next kid". She asks Woody to come with her but when he hears Andy calling out for him, he chooses to stay.
In the present day, after a college-bound Andy has donated his toys to Bonnie, Woody struggles to adapt as she shows little interest in playing with him and her toys already have a leader. Bonnie is quite nervous about starting kindergarten, so Woody sneaks into her backpack as moral support. When she creates a toy from a spork at her kindergarten orientation, it comes to life as Forky, who immediately suffers an existential crisis, seeing himself as trash and not a toy. As Forky quickly becomes Bonnie's favorite toy, Woody tries to stop Forky from throwing himself away.
When Bonnie's family goes on a road trip, Forky jumps out of the window of the RV, and Woody goes after him. As they walk to the park, Woody convinces Forky that his place is with Bonnie, and Forky overcomes his existential crisis. As they pass an antique store, he recognizes Bo Peep's lamp in the window, and detours inside to find her. They encounter a talking doll named Gabby Gabby and her ventriloquist dummy friends, who try to take Woody's voicebox to replace Gabby's broken one. Woody escapes, though Forky becomes Gabby's prisoner. At a playground nearby, Woody reunites with Bo and her sheep, who have become "lost toys", free from owners and able to do as they please, along with their new friend Giggle McDimples. They agree to help Woody rescue Forky.
Buzz Lightyear, trying to find Woody, gets lost in a traveling carnival and encounters prize toys Bunny and Ducky. They find Woody and Bo, who take them to stunt bike toy Duke Caboom. They attempt to rescue Forky, only to nearly get killed by the store owner's cat Dragon. The toys refuse to go back due to the danger, but Woody, overwhelmed by the ordeal of being neglected by Bonnie, indirectly ensued a dispute with Bo who dejectedly leaves with the others except Buzz. Upon confronting Gabby, she explains that she means no harm, only wanting his voice box so she can be played with by the store owner's granddaughter, Harmony. Woody voluntarily sacrifices his voice box to Gabby, in exchange for the safe return of Forky, only for Harmony to reject Gabby afterwards.
Woody sends Forky to the RV and convinces Gabby to return to Bonnie with him. Bo and the rest of the gang return and help the pair escape, and Bo and Woody reconcile. Buzz and Jessie rally Bonnie's toys to use the RV to drive back to the fair. On the way, Gabby notices a lost child at the carnival and leaves the group to comfort her until the parents arrive; the girl takes Gabby with her. Woody chooses to stay with Bo as a "lost toy" with Buzz's encouragement to live in happiness. Woody shares an emotional goodbye with his friends as they return to the RV and leave the fair. Some time later, the "lost toys" help prize toys find owners, while Bonnie creates a companion for Forky from a plastic knife.
Toy Story 5
An ocean container filled with a unit of hi-tech edition Buzz Lightyear toys shipwrecks on a deserted island. Stuck in demo mode, the shipwrecked Buzzes escape the island and follow the North Star to return to "Star Command".
Eight-year-old Bonnie receives a frog-themed tablet named Lilypad ("Lily") from her parents in hopes of helping her socialize with children her own age. Bonnie soon becomes addicted to Lily and begins to neglect her toys. Jessie, as Bonnie's favorite and the new leader of her toys, explains to Lily about Bonnie's need for a real friend, which Lily attempts to solve by sending a friend request to Chelsea, one of Bonnie's classmates, on social media.
Fearful of losing Bonnie's affection, Jessie contacts Woody via a walkie-talkie for advice. Woody, who has left to help Bo Peep find homes for abandoned toys, decides to return to Bonnie, believing that Jessie needs help. When Chelsea invites Bonnie over for a sleepover, Jessie and Bullseye stow away in her suitcase while Bonnie takes Lily with her. Though she is initially happy to have them, Bonnie has her father take Jessie and Bullseye home after Chelsea, alongside her friends Heidi and Kara, question Bonnie for still playing with toys. Jessie and Bullseye escape but are found by an elderly couple. Seeing an old address written under Jessie's chaps, the couple takes the two back to the farmhouse of her original owner, Emily.
There, Jessie ends up in a Wendy house of forgotten toys, including a potty-training device toy named Smarty Pants. As they enter the house searching for Bullseye, Jessie meets GPS receiver Atlas and camera Snappy. They inform her that a new family, the Manoukians—consisting of a young girl named Blaze and her parents—now inhabit the farmhouse. After experiencing a joyful playtime with an imaginative Blaze, Jessie decides to have her meet Bonnie and help them become friends.
Woody reunites with Bonnie's toys, and they confront Lily about Jessie's whereabouts. Believing the toys are hindering Bonnie's social life, Lily tricks Bonnie's father into putting them in storage while Woody and Buzz escape. At the farmhouse, Jessie works with the device toys to send a picture of herself to Bonnie in Blaze's name. Seeing this on social media, the Buzz units believe Jessie is the leader of Star Command due to her sheriff badge. Woody and Buzz hitch a ride with Bonnie and her mother as they go to the Manoukians' house. On the way, Bonnie reads a group chat in which Chelsea, Heidi, and Kara ridicule her over the picture. As a result, Bonnie rejects Blaze's offer to return Jessie and Bullseye, disassociating herself from the toys.
The Buzz units capture Woody, suspecting he means Jessie harm, but Buzz clarifies matters. Jessie sulks by a tree where Emily used to play with her. She discovers a buried time capsule filled with late-20th-century objects alongside photos of an adult Emily and her daughter, who is named after Jessie. Realizing that she still had an impact on Emily's life over the years, Jessie regains her faith in Bonnie. With the Buzz units' help, along with the device toys, Jessie tracks down Lily, who boarded a donation truck out of guilt for hurting Bonnie. Jessie and the others catch up with the truck and convince Lily to help Bonnie befriend Blaze. Buzz professes his love for Jessie and they kiss.
The toys and devices arrange a new meeting between Bonnie and Blaze. After some hesitation, they bond over their love of toys. They play together with all of Bonnie's toys and pretend to marry Jessie and Buzz, with Woody happily watching before he departs with Bo. Each of the Buzz units are later taken in by various children at a school playground.
